Kingoalie
After seeing chukw's post: here about that Raytheon modified 727. I was wondering what other airliners have been modified in a weird way? I now know of this 727 and this modified 737 by Lockheed-Martin. Anyone have anything else? I think these would be neat conversions for some of my Minicraft kits. John

barkin mad
This One There is this one, from this side of the pond, not as heavily modified as some, but this type has seen a few mods over the years. -----------------------

Kingoalie
That is a really cool B-17. Here is some info I found from that site: [N5111N] (Dept of Defense) JB-17G 1945 = Civil and USAF test-bed for an added 6000hp P&W XT34 "Turbo-Wasp," Wright XT-35, Wright R-3350, and Allison T-56 POP: 3 [N5111N, 44-85747, x]. While results were encouraging—the Turbo-Wasp alone produced more power than the combined four wing engines and more economically—the armistice and dawn of the jet age curbed the project. Anyone know what planes used any of those engines and if they are available in 1/72 or 1/144?

sanmigmike
Never got a good picture of it and don't have the poor ones I took handy but I used to see a almost all while DC-10 at the CO MX (west end and on the south side of the middle area, north of 25R departure end) area at LAX, usually in the hanger but at times pulled out, had a cheek or cheeks on it and some other stuff. Think I did see something on it but I can't recall at this time what it was for. Reminded me of the stuff you used to see on the RC-135s. At first look it looked like a plain white 10. eng
Haven't looked at all the links above but 4 that spring to mind are - 757 with F-22(?) radome, BAC-111 with fighter type radome, VC-10 with single RB211 installed on L/H side, 747(-200?) with GE90 on no.2 pylon (777 testing), Am sure there will be pic's of all of these readily available online, Eng
