j-basset
Hi, I'm curious about this kit. Does anyone here have it and can possibly chime in on how the kit is? Is it worth the money? Thanks. Jason C.
kenlilly106
There was a guy on Hyperscale last year that was in the process of building one, he said it was one of their better efforts with the normal "bugs" you see on limited run kits. Another poster had problems with the kit, mainly a delamination problem with the plastic when he sanded it. I have a FM kit, and I've learned that the quality of their kits varies, so you can get a good one and another person can get one with lots of problems. Ken
j-basset
Thanks, Ken. I've been eyeing their Cougar. Have just ordered their F11F-1 from Squadron, which seems to have reduced the price a little. Regards, Jason
Harold
Thanks, Ken.I've been eyeing their Cougar. Have just ordered their F11F-1 from Squadron, which seems to have reduced the price a little. Regards, Jason The F11F-1 is crude. Mine had a lot of short shot parts. The scribing is not consistant. The resin parts have pin holes and it looks like the molds have worn out. I would rather have a good vac form, if this is what FM has to offer.
Julien (UK)
FM is French for expensive rubbish! I opened quite a few of their Halifax kits when they came out and after 6 I stopped as they were all warped. I have also heard of the delamination problems. otis252
Hey Jason, Good luck on that F-11. It's pretty tough. I messed around with mine and finally traded it. I'm sure some of the better modelers here can make something of it, and hopefully you can, but bring your lunch, it's a all day job! Chuck
j-basset
Thanks for all the feedback. At the rate I build, I think I should wait for Hobbycraft's F9F-6/8 models, but for now I guess it's prudent to at least wait till my FM F11F-1 comes in from Squadron before I even think about buying the FM F9F-6. No sense in dumping hard earned $$$ down the proverbial black hole. I have this intention to build (or accumulate) a collection of US Navy F-series jets from the FJ-1 all the way to the F/A-18F, hence the interest. Still waiting for an injection molded 1/48 FJ-2/3 and F2H-2/3/4, to more or less round off the collection. I just can't afford the Collectaire kits of these jets. Jason I am in the same boat as you....I am waiting for the whole series of early NAVY F-birds. I did the (almost) scrath built Testors Banshee, and converted an F-86 to the Fury -2. They came out fairly well, but....a LOT of work. Save your money and don't bother with the French plastic. Just an opinion. Harold
