Airfix/Heller E-3 AWACS question

Recommended Posts

Hey John,

Neither kit comes with them. Apparently someone did a conversion a few years ago with those lumps. Can't remember the name. They are very hard to find now.

I have a couple of these kits and it looks like it will be a scratch build job doing these lumps :salute: for them.

Flightpath in the UK did / do some conversion sets for the E-3 family.

No idea what's still available. Think they got their own www.

Seen an E-8 and maybe E-6 sets on-line.

Regards,

Gerard

The Flightpath sets are still available. I just received the E-6, E-3A and E-3D sets this week.

For their website Google D.J. Parkin.

The AWACS Block30/35 ESM uprade, with the side 'cheeks', nose and tail bumps was availble in resin form from a line called 'AWACS Resins' back in the late '90's/early 2000's (around the time of OAF) from a guy in Italy who was a NATO AWACS member. They're long out of production, and never found them anywhere...at that time, they were available from Linden Hill....

He also made the correct TF-33 engines (like the DB/FLightPath versions)....

When making a USAF AWAC, don't forget to add the Have Siren IR detectors to the engine pylons.

The set that everyone is referring to as no longer available, was made by JSPM. The fellows' name was Jost Schreiber and he was in Germany. It was an E-3 Sentry ESM Modification kit consisting of 4 pieces of resin. They were a tail cone, left and right side ESM antenna and forward chin ESM antenna. I picked up a couple of sets when they were available a few years ago. The instructions also include locations for the plethora of blade antenna, etc to be scratch built by the modeler. If all of those are in the Flightpath set it would save one alot of time. HTH.
