F-14 Tomcat Parking Only

Recommended Posts

Here are some photos from the 1996 (I think) NAS Oceana air show. Last one I got to attend before moving away from Virginia Beach.

Here are some more shots from Oceana. Top ones of the Bones bird in my earlier post and the rest of a Tophatters one. Hope you like.

I have more stuff from this airshow (and maybe other years), but the rest are mostly A-6s, Hornets (Canadian too) and a couple camo'd Tonkas.

Took this shot on 31 January 1989 at NAS Oceana. It depicts F-14A, 162694 returning from the '88-'89 Med cruise. The squadron, VF-32, downed a pair of Libyan MiG-23s on that cruise. The cats involved were 159610 and 159437. Both of these survive today, at Dulles and in AMARG respectively. The example pictured displays a pair of Libyan flags on the canopy which explains why it was not parked on the ramp for the media and general public to photograph.

Hey Dave, I forgot to ask you months ago if you had any shots or some background on 162608. I need to get back on track on getting her history, but I have been slacking. Some things say she was in VF-41, but I saw something else that said it was 161608.

Can you be of assistance my Tomcat-loving friend?

Thanks,

Brandon

No record of 161608 serving with VF-41. However, 161607 did serve with the squadron. I photographed 162608 with VF-41 during April 1999, May 2000 and September 2000 and November 2001. This is the Tomcat on display at the Reagan Museum, Semi Valley, Ca. It was stricken from the navy rolls on 16 October 2003. This airframe accumulated 5784 flight hours, 1682 cat shots and 1699 arrested landings which includes field arrestments.
