F-14 Tomcat Parking Only

Recommended Posts

I never did ask how he got his call sign. He gave me one of his old flight helmets. I teach and was going to wear it for "crazy hat day", but I didn't want to walk around school all day with "BUTT" on the back of the helmet. :lol:/>/>/>

Yeah all it takes ot 1 kid with his phone cam and you'll the the 'butt' of the school's jokes for a while! Dang I'd kill to have an 80s HGU-33 with the full color sqn markings!

For a taxiing F-14A (TF30), would the nozzles be open or closed? My guess would be closed but just to be sure. Thanks!

Nozzles are open when on the ground unless the throttles move past the first detent, they close when weight off whells. So for a Tomcat taxing they would be open for the most part.

Thanks Scott! So they are only closed after takeoff then?

Anyone kknows which sqns operated the NACA vent A models before transitioning or sundown? Also where can I find a list of all the callsigns for all the Tomcat sqns, assuming its not classified or anything? Mucho gracias!

Everyone flying the F-14A after 1992 received the NACA vents. VF-213 just happened to be the first squadron but all of them followed fairly quickly.

Check out Tomcat Alley, anft.net, Wikipedia. There's a lot of online sources that have the callsigns for F-14 squadrons.

VF-31's call sign was actually "Bandwagon". "Tomcat" or "Tomcatter" was used unofficially at times towards the end of their time with the F-14, but they used "Bandwagon" for a fair bit of their time in Tomcats.

Hi guys. And F-14 experts. Been looking at my Hobbyboss F-14 cockpit and the two circled bits don't look right, as can't find em in any references. What say you?

If you read the comments below the video some were there when it happened, one says the Tomcat was full of fuel and thus too heavy for the crane to lift it until it was defueled, which no doubt took awhile so by then a/c were moved around.
