Jinxter13
Dave, Gregg.....in a furball by the time the Bogey pilots figure out what's up with that scheme they'll have a slammer with in frag range, at which point it's all over.

Spongebob
"Okay" pass or not so much ? Not so much. 1-wire = automatic "No Grade" (2.0) or worse except in extenuating circumstances because you were low crossing the ramp or falling out of the sky because you were way back on the power making a play, either of which is bad juju. Spongebob
GreyGhost
Thanks for the clarification, Sponge ... Interesting in that to the untrained observer, it looks like a "good" landing yet there is a whole lot of "wrong" going on there ... Gregg
Jinxter13
Not to be cynical or ennythin, but the 1 wire , beats the 'ell out of going nose to nose with the Fantail.
jai5w4
Not so much. 1-wire = automatic "No Grade" (2.0) or worse except in extenuating circumstances because you were low crossing the ramp or falling out of the sky because you were way back on the power making a play, either of which is bad juju. Spongebob Never know…could be MOVLAS. In which case it would most likely be an OK 1. And, though the ship in the photo is not, 1 wires are not auto no-grades on the Bush (3 wire boat). As weird as it seems, OK 1 wires are common there. -John
Spongebob
Never know…could be MOVLAS. In which case it would most likely be an OK 1. I'll give you that, but counter that it is a Hornet which would mean he was actually flying the ball vice the VV.... And, though the ship in the photo is not, 1 wires are not auto no-grades on the Bush (3 wire boat). As weird as it seems, OK 1 wires are common there. Weak AirLant guys (the same group that claims E-2 copilot traps as "real" traps, I might add). On the RR we took the "1-wire is still too low" philosophy unless you just hit the wire, then if paddles was generous or your were a CO/XO/CAG Staff you may get a (OK). VA-115EFR
So what ships are now equipped with 3 wires? just the newer Nimitz class? And for what reason? Just wondering...
Spongebob
76 and newer. Story goes that the A-12's projected landing speed required a longer cable run out, making the 4 wire unuseable. Now, it's just a way to reduce manning on the ships - most of the Nimitz classes only run 3 wires operationally (as shown in the pic - note the stripped 2 wire) and use the 4th crew as the night/maintenance guys.
