GreyGhost
that is sharp, but what's with the '1000' side number? super-CAG? PACIFIC OCEAN (June 18, 2012) Capt. Greg Harris, commander of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11, and Capt. Jeff Ruth, commanding officer of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) prepare to launch in an F/A-18F Super Hornet from the Black Knights of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 154. Andrew Maverick Taylor
This freaking sucks!! I have been getting a soft spot for the Hornet/Super Hornet and Growler recently but only the twin seaters. But it really sucks that I have not seen a single one in person yet. I live in New Zealand so obviously nothing flys in NZ and they are too tight to get their own fighter wing or form a coalition. There was the 75th anniversary this year for the RNZAF and not even the Aussies wanted to bring their fancy new Super Hornets. Gonna have to get my butt over to Oz or the US next year for the show season just get up close to one of these birds. On the subject of the Aussie Hornets, it was released in the media just this past week that the RAAF is going to proceed with a full EA-18G Growler upgrade to their current fleet and subsequent Super Hornet deliveries. I believe that the RAAF just requires the funds to be released in order sign the deal.

phantom
On the news I just saw a stock photo of exercises off Korea. My beloved CVW-8 VAQ-141 now flying with NF tail codes....... So what VAQ squadron is CVW-8 getting?
GreyGhost
I think VAQ-136 Gauntlets might be in line for that slot ... -Gregg
Moffettflyer
I think VAQ-136 Gauntlets might be in line for that slot ... -Gregg That would make the most sense. One for one swap. And CVW-8 already has the supply chain set up for a Growler Squadron....... This is my first post on here. There is a great amount of information on here and I have learned alot. But I have a lot of questions about Hornet Squadrons and Airwings. So hopefully you wil all bear with me. First has anyone seen VFA-86's new F/A-18E CAG ? They've stood up months ago and I can't find a single photo of their CAG to save my life! Second : Does anyone know why VAQ-135 and VAQ-138 had to repaint their CAG's into more subdued schemes ? Does it have anything to with their being Expeditionary Squadrons ? (Of course VAQ-132's new CAG would dispell that posibility) Maybe they can not deploy with full color CAGS ? Finally : When the Abraham Lincoln pulls into Norfolk for her SLEP, CVW-2 is without a flattop. And CVW-14 is without Squadrons. What are the chances that VFA-2, VFA-151, VFA-137, VFA-34, etc. all transfer to CVW-14? VAQ-139 (CVW-14) is almost done with their transfer to the Growler. then VAQ-131 (CVW-2) can begin their transfer into the Growler. It would be cool to the Bounty Hunters with NK tail codes again, juts in time to celebrate thier 40th anniversary. Phew. That was alot! Thank you, Rob Edited June 26, 2012 by Moffettflyer
A6BSTARM
When I left VAQ-135 just prior to them deploying to the Desert. The word was that BuNo 501 was going to stay in the CoNA scheme and that 500 was going to be a little more subdued. What scheme was going to be authorized was anyone's guess, because the question at the time (in Feburary of this year) was not "if your leaving, but when" and there wasn't going to be time to strip, paint and do something less flashy in that time period. What it is now, I don't know. I would highly suggest you check out: http://www.defenseimagery.mil/index.htmland see if any combat camera folks have taken pictures of them. Well, CVW-17 has been short on squadrons for some time now, Navy switched some around and now they can go out and play again. Budget people keep asking for cuts but then reality steps in. The current 11 CVW's are destined to stick around for a bit. Until at least NEXT weeks budget cuts. Oh well budget cuts aside be glad your navy is not our air force. We are down to one fighter squadron for each half of the country 409 and 425. (Plus 410 training squadron out west.)
