VFA-103guy
Per request, I got permission to post a pic of VFA-103's Vic 200 prior to the addition of the 70th Ann markings. This is how she looked the day BEFORE they left for the boat.. All the black on the spine is gone now, and the skunk stripe was returned to it's original design. phantom
As I mentioned on another site, the effect here is less then wonderful. HOWEVER it IS historically correct to the badge the skull and crossed wrenches was taken from.

GreyGhost
Nice shot, Brian ... I'm glad they changed it also even though this iteration does have a more "Retro" feel ... Also ... Spongebob
Since the late 90's there's been 3-4 expeditionary VAQ squadrons (4 until VAQ-128 got decommissioned). I wasn't privy to the decisions behind where squadrons went after they transitioned, but I suspect wanting to get the 'new hotness' into Iraq and Afghanistan, where their contributions could be publicized and more money wringed out of the budget, played a role. Actually, it wasn't that bad. It was based on funding, as in the Air Force had some on hand from something that went away (if I had to guess is was the funds set aside to put MADL on the F-22 - which died because the JSF won't be able to handle a non-JSF in the net until B4 software) and they offered it up as their share of the G program...but the catch was those jets had to go Expeditionary. It caused some scrambling in the program as it dorked up the phasing of some gear (like ILS...) since Expeditionary was supposed to be last to field and I'm sure it played into the -209 fiasco. Jinxter13
Yikes!!! I thought the JR's would always have great schemes, but this one....well it ain't the worse I suppose, but it's far from one of their better ones. phantom
Do like the inner tail codes better on the "bad" scheme. On the "good" scheme it looks like "GA" instead of "AG".
GreyGhost
Instead of the "bone" font, I'd rather see the Jolly Rogers use a font like >>> this <<< for tail code and squadron designation ... -Gregg

Jacek Z.
Some unit talk (if you don't mind): Have you seen the news in Air International magazine of April 2013? [bTW, this issue with an appendix about Growler, discussing EA-18G development and its first sea- and shore-based deployments.] Good heavens, they say due to budget constraints some Carrier Air Wings may "stand down" (cease operating) in Fiscal Year 2013 until more funds are found. It was expected to start with CVW-2 to stand down in April, and CVW-7, CVW-9, CVW-17 to follow, leaving only six CVWs operable! If there is nothing to stop the plan, it might all end up with some F/A-18 squadrons vanishing, and C-to-E-model transitions put on hold, with pilots transferred to other squadrons. Wouldn't we see, for example, VFA-151 again? :o

mrvark
Just a question out of curiosity and pardon my ignorance, but why aren't the US Marines displaying the same interest in the Super Hornet as they did with the legacy Hornets? Because they're wedded to the F-35B...

Andre
Some shots of the RAAF F/A-18F's from the Australian International Airshow at the beginning of this month Somehow it still seems wrong to see the lightning insigna so closely associated with the F-111 on a Hornet...
