Truly wonderful that the USAF spent the money to repaint these in historical schemes and also to get them out on the airshow circuit. I hope once the F-4 drone program is concluded (they have to be getting close by now), they will still keep these birds flying. However, I am guessing that these aircraft will also be expended as targets or scrapped / used as static exihibits. Once an aircraft is no longer needed, the only thing the AF seems to worry about is how quickly they can scrap them. Not much thought to the historical value of the aircraft.

Too bad, I would have loved to have seen an AF heritage flight with an F-106, F-104 and (dare I dream) a B-58!!

Regards,

John

Reference the F-4 at Lackland. It is indeed 149421 VMFAT-106 Here are a couple of photos I took of it in July 1983

Cool!The building in the background is where I lived(if you can call it that)when I went through basic training(May to July 1983).I could have swore it had the "KB" code and tail flash of VMFAT-201,oh well,at least I got the VMFAT portion right!I guess after 25+ years the memory fades,plus the fact you had TI's screaming at you nearly all the time while going through basic :cheers:

Pics from the web...

Now from Airliners, if these have been shown before...sorry. The photographer is Iranian, and seems to be a real airplane guy who loves the F-4 and F-14. How cool is that? Perhaps these cool warplanes are a start for world peace?

Hi people!

Currently I am working on a drawing of a 32nd TFS F-4E based at soesterberg AFB in The Netherlands however I am having trouble finding information on the maintenance stencelling on this machine. It was quite prominent and I'd like to recreate it. Does anyone know of a good source for information on this? Does anyone have any close ups of a F-4E with readable stencils especially around the cockpit area I would love to have them. Here is a shot of the drawing as it stands now;

That one was nicknamed "The Great Pumpkin" ... Edit:

Oops, my mistake, it appears that Modex 46 carried that nick and not Modex 40 according to Ray's post below ... :D

Thanks Julien, for sharing that one ....

Here's some more QF-4's for you guys. These are all from the Paul Minert collection that was donated to the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola. I am including all the info I have on the pics. Enjoy!
