janman
Fellas, you're posting so gorgeous stuff here that it makes my life very hard when it comes to picking up markings for my F-4J in progress! Sooo many nice early Navy schemes that I'm not sure anymore whether mine will really be a VF-11 CAG bird (posted here as well, thanks!) or something else. I guess I just have too many decal options available... Thank you very much rotorwash and Julien!

Did the Blues slot have a similar signature or did they constanly clean that bird after every show. #4 with Black V-stab Edited January 16, 2010 by Angels49

Scott R Wilson
I don't have the link, but recently I came across an airshow pilot's forum where the Blue Angel pilot who did the gear up landing had posted his story. He said it was a very bad weather day there at Cedar Rapids. They were finishing up their low show they'd had to fly due to low ceiling, and there was a strong gusty crosswind across the runway. He said they were all concerned about the crosswind, and as the first three planes landed he was watching them to see if it was safe, and was so focused on that he just plain forgot to put the gear down. He said as the plane was sliding down the runway he stood on the left rudder to try to get the plane to slide off the runway away from the crowd. It worked, and as it left the pavement it occurred to him it might dig in and flip, so he ejected. The accident evidently didn't hurt his career, he went on to command a fighter squadron. Here's a few more of my photos: 69-0278 of the 526 TFS at Ramstein, September 18, 1985. 69-0278 later was modified into an F-4G. F-4C 63-7517 of the 149 TFG at Kelly AFB, July 1981. I took this while sitting on top of another F-4C. Here's 63-7517 again a couple of years later on May 4, 1983, after it was transferred to the 111FIS at Ellington AFB, TX. That's NASA's Vomit Comet in the pattern: And I came across 63-7517 again, this time at McChord AFB, July 15, 1989. She was then assigned to the 142 FIG: Scott Wilson
