Jay Chladek
Title says it all. This is for pictures of previously done space models to help provide inspiration to our Group Builders. I will start with a couple images of my works. Here is an Airfix stack I did back in 2003-04 of Columbia from STS-117 How about the same shuttle model pictured with a Saturn V (okay, the Saturn is a toy, not a model) and a kitbashed model of the Ares 1 Orion launch vehicle as it looked late last year before NASA went for a common bulkhead on stage 2 (thus shortening the rocket a little). This model is still not quite done and I probably won't finish it until Ares 1 gets completely finalized in its configuration. And finally here is my most recent project, a 1/72 Monogram Space Shuttle with boosters kit. It has been finished in the markings of Shuttle Atlantis from STS-117 and it is going to the Strategic Air and Space Museum near Ashland, NE tomorrow to go on display in an exhibit honoring Nebraska's first astronaut, Clayton Anderson. Jay Chladek
Here are some other shots of the STS-117 stack. The astronauts in the cockpit are kitbashed from Airfix Apollo astronauts and the helmets from the Monogram shuttle's spacewalking astronauts. I decided I wanted pilots in my craft. Look in one of the pictures and you can just make out a tiny US flag shoulder patch in the window of Atlantis.
Justin Davenport
Sweet job Jay on those shuttles, particularly the one with the "dalmatian tank". Here's the 1/144th scale STS-114 stack (Airfix): The 1/288 Shuttle Columbia: The 1/100 Shuttle Challenger: 1/144 Revell ISS modified to Phase 2: I've done plenty of others but this'll be a good sampler. Mike J. Idacavage
This is a great idea of Jay to have this inspriation gallery. I'll contribute to the kitty with a few real space related models that I have finished over the years. Enjoy! :P This is the 1/96 Revell Apollo-Soyuz Test Project kit. I made this for the "SMOKIN" group build coordinated by Sven and the Real Space Modelers in the Yahoo RS Group. Ogonjek 1/30 Soyuz (Early version) Revell 1/12 Gemini Astronaut figure. Have fun modeling! Mike :)
chopperpilot71
Here's my Revell 1/72nd Atlantis, I built it when I lived in Cape Canavaral in 2006. Got to go up inside Atlantis during a visit to KSC with Mike Griffin. When I got home that night I put all other projects to the side and went straight to work on this one! :)
Propellerhead
Here's RealSpace Models Gemini Titan in 1/72 scale. This was mostly complete prior this group build. I spent a lot of time sanding the pvc tubing down to match diameter of the 1st and 2nd stage resin parts and more time with Mr. Surfacer. Much time was spent chasing down all the pinholes in the resin and smoothing things out. Shoot some 1200 Mr. Surfacer, apply CA or 500 Mr. Surfacer, sand, repeat... The plumbing for the main engines was replaced with solder and much of the structure for the main engines was rebuilt with Evergreen tubing. All of the roll markings are painted and the metallics where done with Alclad II. I cut the windows from clear acrylic, backed them with BMF, installed them at the proper angle, and coated them with Gunze clear blue. There's a slight mismatch in the photos. I posted the completed capsule in the third image. Edited February 6, 2008 by Propellerhead

K2Pete
I posted these on another thread on ARC, but this seems more appropriate. I completed 'em all last year, 2007.
