The Detroit Pistons are in town to play the Bobcats tonight. The Pistons are one of the few teams with their own aircraft, an MD-83, to travel for road games. Not the best shots, as there was too much "stuff" on the ramp (biz jets, tugs, and such) to get a straight on shot, but I'll take what I can get!

Moose, Dylan, killer pics! Atmospheric distortion depends greatly on the weather, if there is a slight cool breeze, I find I can shoot tarmacs no problem. But it can appear out of the blue with no rhyme or reason on the coldest days. My biggest issue with it is when I shoot with my telescope, a 12in Schmidt Cassigrain catching aircraft at altitude. Heat rises into the atmosphere and ruins many good pictures even on cool days. This is a big problem even at night when the heat still lingers at high elevations. Heres a couple of pics from late last year. While they may not seem impressive, these were around 33,000 ft and 15 miles away, the Virgin 747 and 777-300 were closer to 25 miles away out over the ocean, unpercievable to the naked eye. The scope keeps me going when I'm stuck at home!!

Some slight distortion is apparent on this Air France 777-300

I found this looking through my telescope shots, even though I'm pretty sure I took it with a 100-400 lense. Right in my front yard, a full on drag race between a Lufthansa 747 and a Cessna. Still one of my favorites, timing is everything!

Yesterday this Boeing 737NG was working the pattern here at Appleton. Apparently giving a couple of check rides to new crewmen. I was fortunate to spot it passing by my office window then stepped out the back door to catch it turning base. After a several touch and goes, it stopped changed crew and few several more before flying back to Grand Rapids, MI where it came from.

Just saw my very first UH-72 fly by my house and then I heard some 'unusual' jet engines nearing. I scanned the skies and saw a JASDF 747-400 fly overhead. I was surprised the Japanese Air Force One sounded unfamiliar since it uses the same engines as the VC-25

I was about 10 miles north of Scott AFB, Illinois, today about noon when I saw at least two F-22 Raptors in the pattern. I couldn't tell if it was 4 different planes or just two that made multiple passes. Unfortunately, no camera with me.

Went out yesterday but the sun wasn't the best.

Canjet 738 was the last one to land on runway 32, had a sharper pic but cut off the nose so sadly this is the best one of her

Hoping to get out today to make up for yesterday's so-so results lol actually as I look at it that last CRJ shot looks like a model photographed close up.

Great Shots of the CRJ200, was on one earlier this week. I posted these earlier today in the wrong thread... I Finally had a clear day with ALOT of different high altitude traffic. Probablly the most diverse bunch I've ever gotten in one day. Here are some scope pics, some good, some not so...

Nice photos, but be careful with how you spell qantas. Your spelling tends to make many Aussies very cranky.
