6planeFormation-1.jpg

I finally got it the best I could, but a week or so ago, every day except on the weekends I saw these aircraft flying over my house, on one day there was a seventh one I'm not sure what they are or what they were doing. I'm aware that there are a small amount of parachutists in the area; so I'm wondering if these are the types of aircraft they would be using. From my days as a novice aviator, I remember that formation flying by GA birds require a special FAA permit. So who are these gize? :hmmm: . Can anyone ID these birds...sorry for the lousy pic :( .

It looks like a couple skyvans and a couple twin otters, I think.

I concur. Skyvans and twin otters. Most likely a formation parachute drop.

I didn't get my camera out fast enough, but just saw a few F-18s taking off out of Long Beach. What was neat to see was the gloss white one with green markings. I can't remember which squadron flies it but I'm pretty sure I've seen it on a decal sheet. My hotel room is maybe 500yards from the runway so hopefully I'll see a few more unseen aircraft.

A few older shots - I was up to Long Island for Thanksgiving week, and got a little spotting in along the way.

Starting at JFK, an AeroMexico 787 on departure:

Air India 777

These last two were on a different day, hence the different departure routing.

Jet Airway (India) 777 being operated by Etihad - they use an Etihad call sign, and the aircraft carries an "A6-xxx" UAE registration.

Saturday I was out to the Hickory Aviation Museum for our holiday party, and just as I pulled in the parking lot, I saw this guy getting ready to depart.

USMC UC-12W BuNo 168205, VMR-4 from NAS New Orleans, in Belle Chasse, LA.

Not today, but Monday the 15th...between 5:45 and 6:00pm directly over I-35E in north Dallas (near Royal Lane, a few blocks south of I-635) - five Blackhawks in an echelon formation flying south right down the path of the freeway, low enough that I could make a positive ID in the near-dark. Anyone know what was up with that?

Thank's for sharing this.

Perris Valley Skydiving is four or five miles from me and they pretty frequently fly this very formation. I believe they only have one Skyvan though. They do however have a DC-9 for skydiving! I haven't seen it fly in years. I believe it is because a section of their runway is not usable any longer.

No pix, but some Marine activity of late, AH-1's, CH-46's, and wonder of wonders, Monday and today I saw first on Mon a Super Jolly, and today 2 of them in formation. I'll bet more than a few folks ran outside to see those, they announced their coming rather loudly :D .

Not the best conditions today at CLT, but there were a few interesting visitors, so I took a ride out to the overview.

Aeronaves TSM MD-83, a Mexican charter and cargo operator. I heard they may be doing cargo work for DHL. This jet saw service with TWA and AA, among others, and was sent to the desert about 9 years ago. It was returned, converted to a freighter, and entered service again in October.

The Delta A319 flew the NBA Utah Jazz into Charlotte to play the Hornets Saturday night. Here they were leaving for Memphis.

United 757 brought the Cleveland Browns to play the Carolina Panthers - the Panthers won, so it must have been a quiet flight home.

First time I've seen the new WN colors in person.

And what's a CLT post without at least one Piedmont Dash-8?

Thank you very much!

It was 60 degrees today - yes, as a New Yorker, 60 degrees two days after Christmas doesn't make sense to me either - and I spent a few hours out at the overview.

While we get Republic E-170s as US Airways Express all day long, we only get mainline US Airways E-190s on Saturdays, and they usually end up on Runway 23, so I was happy to catch one on 18C.

FRG fans will recognize this bird - it used to run the Atlantic City charter flights, operated by Charter Air Transport. It now operates under their Via Air subsidiary, offering daily service between CLT and Beckley, WV.

Interesting business jet arriving at CLT today, N872MK, a Beechjet 400. It carries an image of Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton, a moonshiner and bootlegger from western North Carolina. In 2009, Sutton committed suicide rather than report to prison after a conviction on moonshining charges. Singer Hank Williams, Jr. and Sutton's widow later partnered to distill and distribute "Popcorn Sutton's Tennessee White Whiskey".

US A321 in AA colors at the CLT FBO, preparing to take the Carolina Panthers to Atlanta to play the Falcons.

Nice afternoon light on this Dash-8 departing.

A closer look revealed a familiar face in the F/O seat...he's an old friend from New York, now a First Officer for US Airway's Piedmont subsidiary.

I had to wait until sunset, but I caught the new US Airways Heritage jet. It's the current US colors with AA titles added, on N578UW, the last A321 delivered in US colors earlier this year.

Looks like the Google Street View car paid a visit to the overview. I'll have to look for myself there in the future!

First day of the year, and the first spotting visit to CLT brought big results.

Three of the US Airways heritage jets, now with AA titles. America West was also there today, but sneaked out on a different runway.
