  • 4 weeks later...

Actually forgot about posting this from a couple weeks ago. An RC-135 was out here at Vandenberg for four straight days. Must have been doing some sort of testing on the range out there, because it was joined by the "billboard" P-3 out of Mugu, a C-17, and a fighter aircraft of some sort that my mom saw but couldn't ID (most likely a Hornet). His first pass actually set off a car alarm on the next street over from me...LOL. This shot was taken from my backyard in Vandenberg Village.

I was asked to photograph the Thunderbirds arrival today as part of a reception for a client. It was overcast, and a little rainy when they came in.

I am hoping someone may know something about them.

They are skis for a Tiger Moth. Here are a set that I took some shots of.

Made by DeHavilland?

yes and no. They are made by Elliot Bros (you can see the two dataplates in one of your pics)for deHavilland Canada to be fitted to the Canadian Tiger Moth's. Wheels don't work too well in 4-5 feet of snow!! lol!

Here is a period photo showing them installed

No photo, but I almost drove off the side of I-81 jus now, coming from Johnson City, TN home to Abingdon, VA. Passing by Bristol (and a long way from Tri-Cities Regional), I saw a P-8A at about 2000' AGL cruising south paralleling the interstate!

No clue what he was doing in SW Virginia/NE Tennessee. Haven't seen a submarine here in ages.
