Spectre711
Had a B-17 Fly by yesterday at work. I was in the Skillman area of NJ just north of the Princeton Airport and it was heading east. I got a few shots with the phone but they are worse than some of the old gun footage. It was in drab color with some red on the tail. Edited August 21, 2014 by Spectre711
Moose135
Sounds like the Collins Foundation bird, "909". They are at Monmouth Executive Airport with the B-17, B-24, and P-51 through Monday. Here's an old picture I have of her.
Spectre711
That should be the one then! Would have been cool to see it being escorted by the Mustang but it was probably coming in from a different location.

tdogg
Went to the Atlantic Canada Airshow this past Saturday. Unless it's hosted in Halifax again I won't be attending any other shows. The displays are getting smaller and smaller each year making the 3+ hour commute to whatever hole in the wall airport just to see a small air display and a larger but still painfully small static display not worth the gas and time to go. Sad really considering just a few years ago we had some really great shows. Anyway small or not I took quite a few pics but don't have anymore space on photobucket so I'll post this link for your viewing enjoyment. Cheers!
famvburg
It wasn't today, but this past Friday, Aug. 22, around noon a tan and brown camo'd Mil Mi-8/17 flew over my airport (KVKS). I was in a hangar and heard a helo, walked out and caught the tail end of it headed west-southwest about 500' or so and turned south in a descent. At first I thought it was a Sikorsky H-3 but couldn't figure out why it would be camo'd. Anyway, a few hours later while in the FBO, I heard him on UNICOM departing that area south of the airport. I waited and watched. It flew north to over the airport and then turned eastward at maybe 1000'. I tried to get a pic but there was too much glare. I couldn't make out a red star or other national marking but it was definitely a Hip of some model. I'm guessing maybe someone within a couple of hundred miles may have it as a crane, based on where I think it went earlier, a helo crane would make sense. Unless they filled up with Diesel on site, they had to be close enough to make a round trip because they didn't stop here for fuel unless they were stopping elsewhere going home. Moose135
President Obama visited Charlotte today, to speak at the American Legion national convention. Fortunately, the boss understands my addiction, so I worked from home and went "off the radar" for a few hours. Waiting for the arrival with another CLT spotter - Charlotte police helicopter made a sweep of the approach path, then spotted us. He made about six low orbits over us, checking us out. I guess they liked what they saw, as we didn't get a visit from a cruiser. C-17A 07-7176 out of Dover. It arrived Monday with support equipment, and parked on the cargo ramp, nicely positioned to photograph. And the main event...Air Force 1 arriving. I was going to head back home and do some work, but all the traffic was between the airport and my place, so I hung around the Overlook until they departed.
11bee
Great pics, never get tired of seeing AF1. She's a beauty!
dylan
otherwise known as the holy grail of planespotting. great shots moose, again I am jealous and impressed.
Moose135
Thanks! Dylan, I guess I got spoiled living in NY - I've caught Air Force 1 about a dozen times. They have been to CLT a couple of times since I've moved here, but this was the first time I've been able to get out for it, and there was a fair amount of discussion amongst the local spotter group as to where to shoot from. Looks like I picked a good spot! ;)
dylan
well the gods of planespotting smiled upon me this week. first up an Alaska air retro scheme. I was on my way to shoot heavies at my fav spot when he came past.
ST0RM
I love the retro painted airliners. So much classier than today's schemes. Nice shots. -Jeff
dylan
then the usual stuff. I thought they only put "FANHANSA" ON THE 800'S. I guess not
dylan
but yesterday was the icing on the cake. 4 CF-18's were sitting over on the Shell ramp. so when I noticed them starting up I headed out to a spot beside the runway. luckily for me they all took off a few minutes apart so I could move to a different spot for each one. the whole airport shut down, because all the rampies were out shooting videos with their phones.
dylan
the last one took about 15 minutes to get going, so I had time to move to a better spot.

Moose135
Went out to CLT this afternoon, hoping to catch N822AW (the US Airways Nevada scheme) and N329EN (first Piedmont Dash-8 in American Eagle colors), both of which were in and out several times today. Both managed to elude me - only got a couple of distant shots of Nevada, the Dash was 1 1/2 hours late departing, with no updated time listed, when I called it quits. The Spotting Gods were good to me however - Insel Air, which operates one flight into CLT from Curacao on Saturdays, and almost always uses 18L, departed on 18C... Devilleader501
This one caught my eye because the pilots in the plane on approach to the runway are looking in envy. Wish I could be either one of them weather the CF-188 or the Prop job puling out after them.
Devilleader501
I took this picture Monday. It had been very rainy the 2 days before and I was at just the right place and the right time to capture. It is with my phone camera hopefully I can some day be pros like you with all the shiny new up to date equipment. Sunset in Yuma Az. Overlooking CH-53E's that are here for WTI and the parking ramp looking out to VMFT-401. Hope you all like it. This is what our sunsets look like occasionally with the clouds that we hardly ever get. Moose135
I was in Seattle for a business trip this past week, and had time for a little spotting at the local airports. At Paine Field (KPAE) a Dreamlifter arrived from Charleston shortly after I got there. And after fuel and a crew swap, headed out to Nagoya, Japan. Thai 787 returning from a test flight. Garuda Indonesia 777 departs on a test flight. When they returned, they did a touch and go then came back around for a full stop. Xiamen Air 738 - they departed Boeing Field (BFI) for a test flight, did a touch and go followed by a missed approach at PAE, then headed back to BFI. I believe it was customer acceptance flight, and it's next flight would be heading across the Pacific. Honeywell Convair 340 departing.
Moose135
Also from Paine Field... In storage next to the tower are a 747-8F and 747-8I. A couple of 787 under construction:
Moose135
While in Seattle, I stopped at Renton Municipal Airport a couple of times. Boeing 737s are constructed at RNT, after which they are flown to Boeing Field (BFI) for paint and final preparations prior to delivery. RNT is also the birthplace of the KC-135 and 707. It's located on the south end of Lake Washington, and is also home to a large population of seaplanes, many of which are old De Havilland Beavers. This Beaver was built in 1957. Moose135
Finally, some shots from Sea-Tac. BA 777 arriving with Mount Rainier in the background. Apparently, if you're up on a ladder, you can get the airplane in front of the mountain, but I was happy with this.
