It was a bit of an air show at CLT today.

First, we had a C-17 from the Mississippi ANG depart - they arrived late Saturday afternoon and spent the night.  The NC ANG wing at Charlotte will be transitioning to C-17s later this year, so this will be a more familiar sight.

Next up was a 4-ship of T-38s out of the 1st Fighter Wing at Langley.  They dropped in for a gas and go.

We had a National Cargo 747-400 come to little old Adelaide today. Froze my backside off though.

My understanding it's bringing parts for a battery array that will hopefully stop the big state wide blackout we had on September 28 last year happening again. I won't go into what I think of this battery idea though.

That would be Reno.  I could never figure out why they would show up at Reno with Travis or Fallon being close by.  But it's really cool catching something different once an while.

Saw a lone F-22 fly over the house today heading south east.  All ways happens when I'm doing yard work and never have a camera handy.

A few from a Navy base in southern Maryland where technically I am not supposed to be taking pictures... Sorry about the quality, they are taken with my phone.

We'd hit Reno for our "randoms" now and then...we moved the birds around to different locations for various reasons and it gives you a break from the alert. Nellis is preferred! But if Red Flag is happening it's tough to get in and out of there if you need to. We'd avoid Fallon because Navy bases suck at handling "heavies", takes forever to fuel! Travis is the normal west coast alert site, it gets socked in with fog pretty good from time to time so the back up is Edwards AFB.

Hello friends,
This afternoon I went on a two-hour trip with my Jeep. Of course, before going home, I made a stop at Mulhouse-Habsheim, our local airfield. Today I saw this:

A Piper PA 18 Super Cub, a Jodel Mousquetaire and a Cessna :

And this shining Beech 18 :

Haven't been out to CLT much the past month or so, but I took a ride down Friday afternoon to catch this Russian beast. We were camped out at the overlook next to 18C when he came in...on 18L.

Another day, another Antonov.  We had another An-124 arrive after sunset on Sunday, and I caught some shots as it was leaving on Monday.

Unfortunately no camera on me and only a long distance shot on my cell phone, but I saw a four-ship of Super Hornets heading past Nationals Stadium towards Arlington National Cemetery. I assume they broke into "missing man" for a burial. There were certainly sounds of maneuvering. It was around 1400. Also saw a couple HMX-1 VH-60s around the National Mall as I wandered around.

Looks like a bit of a change in the tail logo/markings with the F/A-18 silhouette in the center.

Today I saw a snowstorm...no visibility to the runway...CF-18 warm in their hangars and pilots having beers at the mess...

The USS Little Rock had spent the last 2 weeks in Buffalo New York being commissioned beside its World War 2 namesake. In order to get to its home base in Florida, it had to pass through the Welland Canal, near Niagara Falls.

(I hope the images show up ... Fotki doesn't seem too consistent.)

Nice looking Ship!  Surprised to see it being towed? and not under its own power.

May just be a rule for the locks. Or the never-ending mechanical failures of the class... I could make comments about the collosal waste of money they are, but I won't.

I had the joy of seeing an A380 and multiple 747s (cargo type) at LAX and then a Qantas 747 at HNL. I love 747s. Took crappy pictures on my phone, not worth posting.

Even if you did...they would still be understatements.  Waste of money and effort at the highest levels.

Upgraded S-3s could fill most of the roles of the LCS for significantly less money. And actually be effective.

Thanks to the storm the folks along the East Coast are enjoying, we got a few interesting diversions into CLT today.

AA Flight 67 from Barcelona to JFK, scheduled into JFK around 12:30pm, diverted down to CLT.  We don't get many 777s in town, so it was a sight to see.

US Coast Guard HC-130J out of Elizabeth City, NC not far from the Outer Banks, escaping the storm.

Not sure if this was storm related or not, it's a Lockheed L-100, civilian version of the C-130 transport.
