PavelS
So, my first thread on ARC I started this build about two months ago when I bought this hot stuff form Tamiya (believe me, there is no reasons for buying gawa kit from this time).I wanted it a little uncovered, so I bought few things from Aires and CMK. When I would speak a few words about Aires cockpit and APG-68 radar - it will be short: this is really superb (amazing details - it look really like on photographs) add on, as allways from Aires. CMK is not bad too, but especially in Vulcan bay they have a lot of mistakes and lost details.I should pick one: completely missing NO2 tank for EPU bellow the ammo drum. IMG]http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff23/PavelSme/7.jpg[/img] dry fitting of radar avionics... dry fitting of canon bay - it was small in both dimensions
PavelS
some pics of scratch building... widened and lenghtened canon bay... dry fit of canon bay... put some tubing and wiring to those wheell wells! finished MLG well and NLG well...
Azgaron
Wonderful work so far, looks great! Azgaron
PavelS
I decided to make at least Ground power connection panel opened..There´s a start: ex nozzle from inner side (it could be more white and a little bit to brown...) so, there is what is left from canon bay:I decided not to complicate it more than is necessary (ammo drum was very small, but biggest issue was how put it together with inlet tube... )
PavelS
Wonderful work so far, looks great!Azgaron Thanks, it is one of my first (none finished yet!) kits after 10 years pause... I am enjoying that kit, really much!
PavelS
so, after I did some major issues on fuselage, I ran away to something totally diferent to rest - there is dry fitting and comparing of two radomes :upper is resin from CMK set (older visual) and lower is cutted original part with Aires inner details: I will use lower one (because of Block 50) finished main fuel tanks in mr.Surfacer finnish: Finished AIM -120 AMRAAM, they are sexyy: painting of nozzle from outside was quite easy thanks to Alclad colors (turkey feathers in "steel" and GSI gun metal, dark part of engine "burnt iron")
Mark M.
What is the GSI? I gather it's the ring part forward of the feathers, but what is it? Oh, and THANKS!!! You just reminded me to go back and paint my "GSI" -- I did the feathers but forgot to extend back a bit
AnthonyWan
Looks great PavelS Love what you've done with the wheelbays and looking foward to more pics :)
PavelS
BTW, I forgott to say that with resin parts I need to bought Eduard Airframe set for this kit, mainly because of lack of details on Tamiya nozzle. There are many nice parts in this set (I used even few in cockpit instead of Aires steel, for example yellow handle on left side of cockpit to lock/unlock cabin and hand rest to side stick on right side). There was everything from the past, last pics are from last two days.I started to play with radar and left radar avionic bay, finished inner part of radome and dry fit radome parts.I think this would be nicest things on this kit - I must repeat that Aires radome looks real Last thing was to come up with idea how to make that lower fuselage part in front of MLG wheell well without attaching of legs in this part of bulding (main MLG legs are attached below center fuselage part which goes throught w.well)...As I know myself, they will not survive long, so I wanted some easy solution. that center and front section comprise of these two parts: ...I reallized that if I attach front part first... ...I could attach center part later in future without problems with MLG legs etc.... ...to finish this, I only will have to cut this part to make it possible to slide it under front part later after color finish is done.Easy! :)

You are welcome! That center part could be fitted as one of the last things - it fits amazingly (tamiya... )For me it is only big issue till now during building of this kit (I mean Tamiya issue, putting that cannon etc together was worst ), do you have your progress here? I am looking forward to your fight with connection of two parts of that inlet tube - I finally gave it up and left it with small line visible...

Rodney
Wow, nice work. Can't wait to see the finished product.
TomcatFanatic123
I am looking forward to your fight with connection of two parts of that inlet tube I'm not . I've already dry-fit it numerous times . I really like the open panels that you're doing on yours. I'm not sure I'm quite experienced enough to do that type of surgery on a kit yet. I'm not sure I'm quite experienced enough to do that type of surgery on a kit yet. After a LOT of dry fitting I realized, that for me a small gap which is seen will be ok...But on second kit (I have one Tamiya kit more which I save for bigger project -more opened panels and marking of machine with which USAF pilot downed 3 Serbian Galebs in Kosovo during mid ninetees :D ) I want to try another method of completing - so it COULD be easier to cover the gap with some putty (probably GSI dissolved putty will be best)... PavelS
Thanks all to positive replies! First, I´ve read colege´s thread about meshes (hre chaff and flare disp´s)-so there is how Tamiya did it compares to Eduard in his 48 383 set.I´ve used two T and two Ed´s because of nice work what Tamiya did.Engine meshes I completely dremmeled out and glued metal parts into holes. ... So! this is two free days progress - final brushing of surfacer ... to make the best possible surface under GSi "H" colors (dark H305 FS 36118 + H307 FS 36320)...It take some time to realize, that Tamiya plan is wrong in color plan (they describing this plane as 3tone camouflage but I think only two above mentioned colors was used - acc to a lot of pics I have on this bird) ...some coloring of missiles ... I did only decent postshading on my Viper, because it is a relatively new bird... Some pics of amazing details of Tamiya kit (and some coloring of details (meshes ...).. AIM´s AMRAAM in full colors - only decals left... I could not wait to see my Viper in full armor - only dry fitted some of external stores <_<
