Here's my latest project, Revell SR-71..... Nothing much to say, good old monogram in revell box, raised panels, simple part breakdown... If u dont count cockpit, gears and engines, model have only 6 parts to assemble prior to painting....

And with the painting starts my crusade... Painting whole model in black was not an option, i want to achieve heavy weathered plane, and if u look at pictures, not a single one is pure black, like instructions suggest to paint model....

So, idea was to do a heavy preshading work prior to spraying black paint. Here's some pictures with little explanation what colors are used.... Of course, lot-a-painting going on, here's maybe 60% of work done....

Part one - shading with intermidate blue

Part two - shading with medium grey

Part 3 - little flat black and shading with Sand....

Part 4 - shading with red, brown, and spraying some Interior black over everything

Last pictures are low quality, i didn't want to use flash, and light in room is weird yellow, but i thing that all the shades are visible.... If u dont count that yellowish shade on model, so far so good....

Comments, ideas, suggestions - welcome!

That looks awesome  . Hope you don't mind, I corrected the color on your final shot to get a better idea of what it really looks like. It's definitely one of the more realistic Blackbird paint jobs I've seen done. Nice job.

Thanx for support!

This morning, i paint some areas with 50:50 mix of black and blue, shaded some areas, and tomorow will be time to try to simulate airflow lines with 2 shades of black: tar black and interior black.... Hope this will be enough, maybe one more light coat of flat black and painting is done....

Some daylight photos..... i think that painting is done, now future, decals, thin layer of black to "kill" decal shine, and then some fun with black, umber and brown pastels, to make more realistic weathering and fading of black color..... and in some spots to cover preshading, where is more visible than it should be.... but i think, this is maximum what can be achieved with only airbrushing....

Comments please....
