Closeup with the Crew Chiefs' names on the nose:

The same F-15 doing a flyby over on the Big Island:

Ironically all of these were taken with the same Sony Cybershot camera.

I'm hoping to get a digital SLR someday, maybe a Sony a350 or similar....

wow WOW !!!!! Love the sound !!! Thanx for posting the youtube links..they are GREAT!!!

G'day All,

The wind and weather didn't do us spotters a lot of favors today but our new guests didn't waste any time getting stuck into their mission while they're here.

Managed to catch 5 of their jets today.

A question for Jake or other Eagle aficionados. "The Book" says that these guys now have C/D models but the FY numbers on these jets made me think that these ones might be A models. Are they As or Cs?

and, sorry for the digression from the subject of this thread but, we were treated to this surprise visitor as well. :)

Hoping the weather is better tomorrow.

Cheers,

Motty.

The HANG men are, AFAIK, "offically" an F-15C/D unit. However, like the 142nd FW here in Oregon, they still have a mixture of MSIP A's and B's along with C's and D's. Hawaii, Oregon and Massachusets, IIRC, got their jets from Kadena. The HANGmen were quite....dissatisfied with the C's they got from Kadena, considering how they were basically "rode hard and put away wet". Alot of units expressed considerable dissatisfaction with the C's they got from Kadena, some going as far as to call them "hunks of junk". When Eglin shuts down Eagle ops next year to make way for the F-35 FTU, their jets are going to get dispersed to the ANG units as well, which will likely mean the end of the A's in Guard service.

Its rather mute when it comes to the HANG, considering they're slated to become a joint Air Guard/Active Duty F-22 unit sometime between 2009 and 2010.

Whats really interesting is both 78-511 and 78-528 have JHMCS. I wasnt aware they had reached the Guard units..now I know.

great shots Motty

more mate

yeah look at the pics there 3 Eagles with 3 different aerial set ups look closely 77-077 has 2 straight down old type

76-052 has 1 triangular shape and one straight down

78-528 has 1 swept back one (JHMCS) also

78-511 has what looks to be 2 swept back

look at 78-528 in the 1st shot and its clearly different to 78-511 thats in the

foreground.

is this MSIP levels?...having different aerial mods?

No, just antennas from different vendors.

As Jonathan mentions above, it's a mixed grouping. 76-052, 77-077 and 77-079 are A models, 78-511 and 78-528 are C models.

Thanks for the kind words. I didn't expect the tiny mic in that sony camera to be any good, but was impressed with its performance.

A pair of Jazzie Eagles heading into AMARG and retirement.

Wow. That's quite poignant, seeing your shots of this jet being "put out to pasture" while, just this week, I've been lucky enough to watch these guys Down Under (the serials are very close. Spooky).

Wow. That's quite poignant.......

Thanks for the pics Jake.

You're very welcome, Motty. Unfortunately the days are numbered for those very Eagles you just photographed.

The ANG takes incredible pride in taking care of their aircraft.

True, but, unfortunately, pride in their aircraft have nothing to do with length of service or the mission. If it did, the AMARG would be empty.

Some more shots of the Hawaiian Eagles down under this past couple of weeks.

I'll be sad to see them go (tomorrow I think).

The structure under the airbrake of this one seems different? (I'm guessing it's just the usual cover / panel is not fitted?)

Hope you like 'em.

Cheers,

The new speedbrake has been around for years, at the Heath we started to get them on the new E models in 1999. To go along with the new speedbrake comes the new nose gear forward door, all compsite with the ribbed bracing.

They are probably bing fitted through attrition. old speedbrake had a habit of cracking.

Cheers
