Royal Air Force "Raspberry Ripple" Aircraft

Recommended Posts

I am looking to compile a list of aircraft painted up in the Royal Airforces Test squadron "Raspberry Ripple" paint scheme. That neat looking red/white/blue scheme applied to the aircraft that the RAE squadron uses. So far I have come up with the following:

Phantom GR.1

C-47

Tornado

Hawker Hunter

BAC 1-11

Seaking

Jaguar

BAE Hawk

Any others anyone know of, and if there is some type of references (books, photos, internet, etc.) available out there someplace?? I am trying to come up with a complete list for a future modelling project. THANKS!!!

"Raspberry Ripple" paint scheme? Never heard of it.

Here is an example of the "Raspberry Ripple" paint scheme on a Phantom FG.1 used by the RAF's Empire Test Pilots School. I have no idea at all why it is callrd that, but figure it has to do something with the color scheme?? The scheme varied between different aircraft, although the layout of the colors reamined the same (red tail/blue underside/white top).

It's called 'Raspberry Ripple' because it looks like a particular flavour/brand of ice cream one can buy over this side of the pond, with red and white swirls in it! Not sure where the blue comes into that mind you!

Hi Bob, the leading book on RAE, ETPS and A&AEE aircraft colour schemes is "Testing Colours" by Adrian M Balch, published by Airlife Publishing Ltd, ISBN 1 85310 349 7.

Robin.

I have that book, v.good it is too. Enough rasperry ripple schemes in it to keep a modeller

going for years. I think the Harrier was a T2.

To the list I can add -

Puma

Beagle Basset

Meteor

Where might one find a copy of that book mentioned?? Hopefully it is not one of those long out of print titles that would require a second mortage on my home to afford (and remember the mortgage situation over here in the USA is not doing well right now!!). Can someone lead me in the right direction to locate the book?

As always....thanks for the help!!!!

Some years ago Model Decal had a decal set ,# 79 that featured a C-47 in 50th anniversary special markings that are quite colorful + a Hawker Hunter T.7, actually 2, #XL563 & XF321 + a Westland- Aerospatiale HT3 Gazelle #XZ936. Also Hasegawa had kit #CH8 for a Phantom Mk FG1 #XT597 in 25th anniversary special markings. I realize both are long out of production, but dilligent searching will turn up what you want.
