I saw a program on The Military Channel about F-18's Going to Germany to do some DACM with MiG-29's. The program was called Red October. Ever since then I wanted to build a MiG-29. My question is do the mIg's carry an ACMI pod for debriefing? I can't seem to find any pictures of a MiG with a pod. It's hard to believe in this day and age they would use the old "I shot you first" playground kind of thing.

I've got an article on that at home, but am a my sister's place. Will look for it when I'm home later on.

When I was at Rostock-Laage a couple of years ago, there were French Mirage 2000s and A-10s from Spangdahlem. Apparently, lots of Alllies used to do DACM with Luftwaffe MiGs.

Yes it is.

The first pic is of a TACTS Pod (Tactical Air Combat Training System).

The second is of a ARDS Pod (Advanced Range Data System).

Both are variants of ACMI Pods.

Thanks Reddog. Know where I can find some good pics of the ARDS pod to scratchbuild one. I tried googleing but nothing came up.

Found this pic:

Pretty difinative on the TACTS pod! :soapbox: I can't decide what rail that is. Could it be that a western pod is mounted on a russian rail?

The launcher TACTS Pod is mounted on is a U.S. LAU-7 bolted onto the MIG's pylon. As far as scratching building a pod I would recommend just cutting off the wings and fins of a sidewinder, shaping the nose and adding the probe. ACMI Pods basically use the body of a Sidewinder and have a different nose.

A TACTS Pod will have the probe on the nose and a ARDS Pod just has a slightly pointed/rounded nose, no probe. TACTS Pods are usually painted orange with a black nose and chrome probe, ARDS Pods are usually white with a silver tip on the nose.

It depends where the DACT deployment took place.

Here in Germany we use the FPR (Flight Profile Recorder) system.

It basically looks like an AIM-9 body It is all gloss white with a grey tip (only the tip, even smaller than the

AIM-9 seekerhead).

Check out : http://www.midkiff.cz/index.php?page=defen...le-recorder-fpr

If the deployment took place at an ACMI then the MiG's would probalbly carry one ACMI-Pod, one FPR-pod and one AA-11 dummy.

The FPR would be used to figure out the own lines before the mass debrief.

When the DACT took place at Laage then the MiG's would only carry one FPR-Pod and one AA-11 dummy and the DACT partner would also receive the FPR-pod.
