Su-34
Hi, i havent been very active because of the school. But, it looks like the MiG-31 has a missing tire on the left gear (front view) Or is it just the angle of the pic? Must be perfect.. Anyway, here's the pic: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1293916/L/ Could this beast survive without a tire?
Brady
Aw sure it could. Russian birds can take a lot of punishment and still be totally airworthy... take this Polish Mig-29 for example: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1215920/M/

janman
It certainly looks like there's a tire missing, but as the Foxhound's main landing gear wheels are not in line, it might very well be that the outer rear wheel could totally be blanketed by the front wheel situated inner. I'm also sure the plane could land without the other wheel as well - at least when this particular example is without any ordnance.
ChernayaAkula
Certainly interesting. How about someone with a built MiG-31 (which rules me out, as I only buy the things... :D ) take his model and look from the same angle?
Flankerman
Certainly interesting. How about someone with a built MiG-31 (which rules me out, as I only buy the things... :D ) take his model and look from the same angle? I was going to reply - it looks like a missing wheel..... Then I looked through my photos of MiG-31's (admittedly on the ground) - and lo! - it looks like it might just be blanked out by the angle of the photo.... Ken
Aggressor Supporter
Sure looks missing to me. Interesting that one side doesn't need the extra wheel.
ChernayaAkula
^ Yeah. But maybe it can do so in emergency situations only. For flights with a full weapons and fuel fit from a less-than-ideal runway, that tire may come in handy. ;)
Aggressor Supporter
Very much agree.
Floyd S. Werner, Jr.
Budget cuts. It is happening all over the old Eastern Block countries. Floyd
MickeyThickey
It's just the angle of the photo.
janman
^ I think it definetely is that.
Darren Roberts
The wheels are diagonal in line, not right next to each other. It's simply the front wheel blocking out the rear wheel. It sure does look funny, though.
David Walker
The wheels are diagonal in line, not right next to each other. Okay, that finally makes sense. I simply couldn't get my head around the photo, but the angled tires/wheels explains it perfectly. Thanks!
