Oh...just reissued kit...raised panel lines...Oh well, so much for wishing for a new-mold F-4.

BTW...did I see that right?

I'm still particularly keen in the F-4C.

The Monogram 1/48 F-4C/D is a very nice kit, considering the Hasegawa 1/48 F-4C/D also does not comes with recessed panel lines.

That would be great source of affordable kits for Hi-Decals' previously announced F-4D MiG Killer sheet.

Yep there the Monogram kits with new decals and perhaps a resin bit or two.

Seems that AM is doing what Monogram ProModeler used to do. Interesting shift.

I do think the Monogram Phantom is a good kit, I've built a couple. However I don't see it being up to AM's qualit standards. Who knows, maybe they were able to re-work the molds with recessed panel lines (not holding my breath here).

Just to spoil everyone further, its a 72nd scale release, not 48th, thats a typo. Spoke to AM personally at the RHTSA show here in October and everything was 72nd. 48th woudl be cool, but 72nd is a repop on Monogram kit, so if they do a 48th, itll doubtless be R/M too.

And that 1/72 ol' Monogram kit is a nearly-exact scaledown of the 1/48th kit. I actually like the 1/72 better as I recall it fitting better.

Raised panel lines arent all that bad. In some cases, you can get more accurate results with raised lines, than the often overdone recessed.

Let's see what the final release comes with, before bashing it.

What Jeff said ...

Besides, the Monogram 1:72 scale F-4J is a nice little kit ...

Ditto what the White Devil said. Besides, Monogram's 1/72 Phantoms are little gems. Who cares if they're raised panel lines? The monogram kit, in EITHER scale, is only slightly less awesome than the hasegawa kits of the similar scales... and for a heck of a lot cheaper.

After winning what was supposed to be a Monogram AV-8A, it arrived with a 1/72 Monogram Phantom inside the box. It is a very decent kit. It nails the shape of the Phantom as does the 1/48 kit; IIRC no one else does that.

Whichever scale AM choose to issue, they're well worth it IMHO.

One of the first kits I ever built was a Monogram Phantom...the Showtime 100. It was a very nice kit.

Ditto, I did this very early in my modeling days and did a very good job of it considering my skills of the day.

In this scale, I think the raised lines work just fine.

Nearly, but better-Mongram got the Navy style rear cockpit right in the smaller version, an improvement over the big brother kit. It'd be nice, though, if the reissue contained a pair of outer wing pylons sans tanks.

I agree, but I'll venture to say there will be No changes at all to the original molds. Decals, of course, HAVE to be an improvement (no way they can be worse than what Monogram was putting out).

Now - why would I pay $18 for an old kit I can get at a show or off EBay for $5? Same reason I buy all those Hasegawa reboxings -- it's a "new" F-4 kit.

In a way it's too bad AM is having to take the strategy of reissuing old stuff whose tooling cost is paid for, but charging as if it weren't - like Lindberg. AM was such an innovative company under original ownership (but not very profitable, I understand). I recall speculation that this strategy would provide recovery/seed money to eventually result in new tooling similar to the original AM art. We'll see.....
