Italeri 1/48 F-4S Phantom

Recommended Posts

I'm aware that Italeri released an F-4J and F-4E that are the old ESCI molds, but have they also issued an F-4S version? They may have just done a combination of their J and E sprues?

I checked Italeri's web site and there is no mention of the S-variant.

The site is in Korean and I cant read it that much with Google Language Tools.

F-4S

Any clarifications will be helpful.

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong. A closer look at one of the in-progress pics indicates a kitbashed build. Sorry.

How can I delete this thread?

The only F-4S by Italeri should to be in 1/72:

Yes, Italeri and Testors did release a 1/48 F-4S in the early 1990's. I still have mine.

It was based on the Italeri/Testors F-4E/G kit, with a new nose & other parts for the S.

Raised panel lines, dismal kit, but pretty OK decals.

Built the testors boxing in 1/48. Keep in mind that the new boxing of the italeri kits are actually the Esci mold.. the F-4S in the Italeri box is the old Testors kit, which is a total beast... and far from accurate. The cockpit is near non-existant, and it's a USAF tub on top of that. The wing fences are the shorter USAF style ones, it lacks the re-inforcement strap that goes along the bottom of the whole wing, no trunion plates on top of the wing (the bumps that go over the mainmounts), no fish plates on the h-stabs, and the list goes on. All of this is pretty easily fixable, but the builder is sometimes left wondering why they bother. The fit is horrible on some parts, resulting in a step that takes a little work to wear down. On the plus side, the kit has a good overall shape, no real issues there.

I built mine up and used the D&S VF-301 sheet on it.I also did a few things to bring it closer to what an F-4S SHOULD have, but there's still plenty I could've done. You can only dress up a piece of junk so much! I guess it makes a decent "3 foot model" though!
