Harold
Here is the Revell FOD cover on the left, compared to the Tamiya on the right. Big difference! At least they are done... Go here if you have any interest: http://mysite.verizon.net/resqt29j/
Ben Brown
Yeow! Revell really pooched that one, didn't they? Ben
Harold
Yeow! Revell really pooched that one, didn't they? Ben Yes they did. The top of the intake should curve down. It is almost straight on the Revell kit.
PNW_Modeler
Hey Harold, are these covers for the old Revell kit, or the newer mid 90's version?

Harold
Hey Harold, are these covers for the old Revell kit, or the newer mid 90's version? I have only had the "newer" version. At least that was what I thought I had. Would you like to do a review of them for me. Do you have one to fit them too? Cheers, Harold
Harold
Great work! It's amazing to see the difference between the two. Wow! I thought it was going to be a fairly easy job to make the Tamiya covers work on the Revell kit. NOT!! I had to make totally new ones for it. Thanks, Harold
j-basset
I've been told before that Revell Germany used the dimensions of the Spey powered F-4K/M hence the incorrectly sized intakes. Didn't expect the discrepancy to be this huge, though. Jason

Harold
I have re-molded the Revell F-4 FOD covers. They fit without trimming the pouring blocks now. At least on my sample. Cheers, Harold
Sabre
I can tell ya'll...have both the Revell & Tamiys FOD covers from Harold...both fit perfectly. Minimum sanding.....just shoot flat white, then flat red.....you're good to go! Happy modeling, Jim
ReccePhreak
So those will work on the new RF-4C & RF-4E kits? If so, I may have to order up to 5 sets, along with 2 for the Tamiya kits. Larry
Sabre
The RF-4C for sure..... Good to go, Jim
ReccePhreak
The RF-4C for sure.....Good to go, Jim Thanks for that info, Jim. That'll save me some work on correcting the intake trunks, when I FINALLY get around to even starting on one of my 1/32 Phantoms. Larry
eastmanace
Veering from the subject just a little....Were the F-4 FOD covers ever painted any other color than red? I'm thinking, for example, VF-84. Could/did they have black covers to match their scheme? Just wondering.....Cliff
Sabre
I'm certainly not the last word on the subject.....but I would doubt they would be any other color than red, given that they would be considered part of the aircradt's "GSE"...ground support equipment. All other safety locks & covers are red...so it would follow that they are as well. HTH... Happy modeling, Jim

Just wondering.....Cliff The only time I have ever seen FOD covers other than red, was when they were used for display aircraft at airshows, or for some kind of competition, like the "Royal Flush" international photo-recce competitions.
