Flight.jpg

Finished this on Christmas eve but have been otherwise occupied since then so no time for photos until now! The appearance of my cat next to the models on the table worried me a bit, lest she knock the models on the floor :shithappens: but thankfully the Tornados scared her off...

The real aircraft was painted in this scheme for the 95th Anniversary of 2 squadron (AC) of the Royal Air Force, based at RAF Marham, Norfolk, England.

Model was made from the 1/48 Italeri Tornado IDS kit with fuel tanks, BOL rails, FLIR fairing, and pylons borrowed from the Airfix GR4 kit. As for the business side of things, warload is a 'Drpepperesins' Litening III RD pod, and a Flightpath paveway II laser guided bomb modified to be an 'enhanced paveway' (superb detail but soooo fiddly to put together).

Painted with a hairy stick  and Humbrol enamels, weathered with the Promodeller wash, pastels and Tamiya weathering powders. Decals by Model Alliance, with all the stencils for the jet coming from the 'Anniversary Tonkas' sheet which is the best source of accurate stencil data for the GR4.

Took some new photos of my other GR4 as well...

Nice Tonka's, thanks for sharing!

Just not enough of these being built. We really need someone to come out with a total GR4 resin set that will have all the item's needed to improve the Italeri kit. Anyone listening? New nose pod, tail correction, cockpit panels, even a weapon's upgrade and how about the chaff and flare pods as the ECR kit does not come with them.

Very very nice... for some strange reason, I am starting to get an attraction to the tornado as an aircraft... funny why i never liked them before...

anyway, is there somewhere that lists why the italeri tornado is wrong?

Whats a good kit in 1/72?

there are NO tornado kits that have the radome the correct shape....for a start lol.

two lovely models there, and the 1/1 cat is amazing. did you use pre or post shading to get that hair effect? lol

Probably the best kit is one of the five new-tool (new as of 1999 or so) Revell kits. There's only one British boxing, and that's a GR.1. Although the nose looks off. Don't know whether there's a replacement nose.

no tornado kit has the right shaped radome?? and you are just talking about the short nose versions right? I suppose no model manufacturer has the nose right for the F3 version either?

no, I am not english... how did u guess .., though my aunt did marry an english gentleman who used to fly the V bombers in the RAF...
