Hey Gang,

I just saw few kit of Mak on ebay that I found very interesting. I have never heard of this company or brand. Now, is there any website like our ARC that is for these models where I can go and see other build models and reviews? Sure would like to know more abou them.

Mak kits were originally called SF3D from Nitto many years back. Really cutting-edge kits for the time, with brass parts, photo etched, wiring, etc. There were and are still many "garage kits" made by fans around the world. Interesting news that Hasegawa now is going to produce kits from this sci fi series.

Some good reference sites:

The story of SF3D is that Japanese model builder and designer Kow did this as a series of kitbashed models for a feature in Hobby Japan. The series took off in popularity, so Nitto began issuing kits based on Kow's designs. The reason they are called Machinen Krieger today is that when Nitto wanted to reissue them a few years back, Hobby Japan, who owned the rights to the "SF3D" title didn't want to give it up, so a new title was chosen.

If you look at the kits long enough, you begin to spot the model subjects that the originals were kitbashed from. Tamiya tank parts are popular items, and the PAK based armor suits have the main bodies that were clearly cut down from an OH-6 Cayuse kit (probably Tamiya's). The Fleidermaus is my favorite since it is one of the few flying vehicles in the series, and I also chuckle when I look at the parts as the main engine bells are taken from F-1 and J-2 engine parts from Saturn V rocket kits. I think even part of a Monogram BSG Cylon Raider kit made it into the main body of the Fleidermaus as well (so I have been told).

As for the fit of these kits, they are pretty good although some are better then others. Don't expect them to fall into place like say a FineMolds X-Wing, but a modeler with decent skills can bang these out with no problems. They are popular since modelers can build them into practically anything they want to be. Although Machinen Kreiger does have a back story written about it, one can either stick to it or ignore it as they see fit. These are the purist form of SF models in that sense.

It looks like Hasegawa is going to come out with a bunch of Ma.K stuff.

I've never been into the armored or flying suits, but the machines are cool. I've got the Nitto Fledermaus and Krote kits. The Hasegawa Falke looks cool.

Anyone know what the big flying vehicle on the gooseneck stand in the middle of this photo is?

Guys, thanks for your help and some information on these kits. The links will keep me busy for a while.

I did see some of these SF3D kits on ebay, but they are going for crazy price....Although, most of what I saw on ebay were full resin. Dave, I'm with that flying looking vehicle that is in the middle of the photo is pretty cool.
