F-104S from Hasegawa

Recommended Posts

Hello: Just wondering, is the Hasegawa F-104S Starfighter a real S or it is a G (1/48 scale), has it the gun port covered as the real plane?...Thank you in advance

It is a G, Hasegawa S or ASA kits will give you 2 extra ventral fins but the air intakes are still the G one as well the central fin (the S one had a different cutting edge). The S also had 4 wing pylons and Hasegawa gives you NONE! And don't let me talk about antennas: none of the Hasegawa kits come for the correct antennas for S, ASA or ASAM.

Please mind: the cannon was removed from the S CI (fighter), ASA CI and all ASAM, but S CB (bomber) and ASA CB kept the Vulcan.

For further nformations please check my article on http://www.amarc.dk/cms/index.php?option=c...3&Itemid=28 or buy my photos CD!!!!

Cheers

Paolo

Thank you Netz, Paolo and Dave, helped me a lot!.....

Cutting Edge (Now paws up) did a corrections set to true up Hasegawa's short comings but I don't recall if it fixed them all. Paolo has done some great work in this regard I would follow his lead on this build.

The only thing, at least on the exterior, that the CE set didn't fix was the main ventral fin. However, it's a simple matter to reshape the leading edge of the kit part yourself. Otherwise, the CE set pretty much contained it all, new intakes, all of the pylons, including the underfuselage ones, new missile rails, including the Sparrow/Aspide rails, antennas, etc.

It all depends on what you want to do, I guess. If you just want to do a special schemes bird carrying nothing but tip tanks, then the Hasegawa "solution" of sticking on a couple of extra ventral fins and using a decal for the aux intake door is probably ok. If you want to arm your F-104S, especially with the extra underwing and/or the underfuselage missles, then the CE set was the way to go.

I've no idea yet will it will be available, too many factors (read Revell) are involved with the release date...

No need to make pre-orders, it will be done in sufficient quantities.

But if you want to be put on my newsletter list, so you'll be informed whenever something new is released, just send an email to me at daco@glo.be

This is the kit with ASA/ASAM decals and resin gun cover. For the ASAM remember to remove rear RWR and add GPS dome.

Decals in that box are well designed and printed but quite thick. You will also need big Tauro stencils sheet.

One of the major problem in building Italian Starfighters is the lack of good decals:

Hasegawa are thick and very often wrong (TF-104G and others)

Tauro are old (many broke when wet) and expensive since you will need 3-4 sheet for 1 airframe!!

Skymodels are printed out of scale (are bigger than needed) and most of the colours colours are too bright.

Hope someone will solve this problem sooner or later, I still have a dozen in the waiting pile....
