Jay Chladek
Okay, I know that the Monogram F-4J kit is essentially a reissue of their F-4C/D kit with some minor changes, but how many changes did they make? Reason I ask is I have a couple of the F-4J kits in my stash and none of the C/D kits. With the Phantom GB coming up and Diego's F-4D sheet, I am tempted to do one of these models up in IRIAF F-4D colors. So, can I put a second stick in the aft cockpit and get away with calling it an F-4D or do I need to do more? My plan is to do this build more or less OOB and not slam any aftermarket resin bits into the kit if I can avoid them. Since the IIAF birds never got the sensor bump on the bottom of the nose that USAF jets got, I won't need to add that item at least.

USAF style pylons will be needed and the short burner cans from the F-4C/D release, that's all I can think of at the moment.

Hello Jay, Re Monogram F-4C/D - the kit will be reissued by RoG in late April, and will surely contain a decal sheet with full stencilling, that would surely be useful... Also when building the Iranian F-4D from my sheet: You can build "14884" as - IIAF 3-616, as seen during the 1970s, when serving a.o. in Oman during the Dhofar civil war, or as - IRIAF 3-6712 in October 1980, after obtaining a MiG-21 kill. This F-4D was one of 4 a/c modified with a RHAW system in 1978 and was so externally similar to most US F-4Ds, with undernose radome. She was still active in 2007, now based at the 10 TFB !!! Hope this helps Cheers Diego
j-basset
In addition to what Dave Cook mentioned, you will need: 1. a pair of unsltted horizontal stabilators 2. a C/D type forward nose landing gear door 3. under nose fairing (if applicable) 4. maybe a new rear instrument panel. You will also need to fill in the two catapult bridle attachment points at the wing roots. IMHO, the Monogram J seems more of a C/D, than a J. Even the AF style MLG wheels are included. Jay Chladek
Ahhh, I forgot RoG was reissuing the C/D model. Coolness. Guess I shall acquire one of those kits for my next Phantom project then. Thanks guys.
