Hey all....

gotta question regarding the VF-102 Diamondbacks.....

did they ever carry lo viz markings on their F-4Js?

And if so....does anyone make a decal sheet in 48th scale?

I believe they did because the AMT/Ertl boxing of the Esci kit features low viz VF-102 markings for the F-4J. They must have had them for practically the last cruise though as not long after they switched to the F-14.

Page 30 of Detail & Scale's Colors and Markings of U.S. Navy and USMC CAG Aircraft (vol.10) has F-4J 153850 modex 100 in overall gloss gull gray and dark gray VF-102 markings. Timeframe is said to be May 1980. Sorry, I can't post a pic online due to copyrights...

No problem....just knowing that a photo of this bird exists is all I needed. I saw it on a boxtop of the AMT kit that Jay refered to and really liked the way it looked, but doubted the accuracy. I didn't realize lo viz was around then.

Now to find an aftermarket sheet!

Thanks again Ryan!

Paul,

I have the Diamondbacks 50th Anniv DVD and there was a slide show of the aircraft types operated.

there were a couple photos of low viz F-4J's, but they were very fuzzy.

Superscale also did a semi low vis VF-102 F-4J CAG bird in 1/72 a long time back. It was a mixed sheet with an A-7E and a F-14A.
