Jennings
The boys from Battle Creek are about to give up their A-10s (which they've had for 17 years now) and getting C-27s. The boys at Selfridge are giving up their F-16s and getting BC's A-10s. So the 107th FS will get to put "Red Devils" markings (see my Avatar) on their Hawgs. Here's my idea for what they ought to look like.. J Edited May 30, 2008 by Jennings

Jennings
Hey that looks great ! Man I am going to miss the Vipers. Thanks. That's how I felt about the F-106s and F-100s  J

Sig Saur & Son
Looks great but lacks a large pitchfork.
Jennings
Looks great but lacks a large pitchfork. True, but the A-10 doesn't lend itself to one as the F-16 does, and the pitchfork only appeared when they got F-16C's in the mid-1990s. It hasn't traditionally been part of their look. boom175
It all looks great, but a couple of good buddies are going to be out of the job they love because of this BRAC crap. The folks at Selfridge are not hiring a lot of the guys from BC. Also its one heck of a drive from BC to Selfridge. OH well.
jefropas
Its gonna suck seeing BC go east. Our summer "retreat" is under BC's traffic pattern, and lookin up seein a Hog always makes me smile....At least BOTH Michigan fighter units aren't going, and the A-10 is more durable than an old Blk 30 anymore. I like the what if markings, I just bet though that the black/red checkers will return to the tail. BC ran the cleanest A-10's I've ever seen, Selfridge should be proud to get em, and since BC had hardly any markings, they're ready to go. Battle Creek, Jeff
fasteagle12
From Combat pilots to taxi drivers....it doesn't seem fair to the BC folks. At least they still have a mission. BRAC almost closed the base. I go to the air show there every year. It's gonna be strange seeing the C-21 instead of the Hog. By the way, I do like the markings you came up with.
jester292
I had no idea this thread existed until now. Of course Jennings, you do have my favorite avatar... Aaron
madmanrick
Nice to see the MIANG get some love, especially the 110th! I spent 2 years in the 110 almost 30 years ago, when they still had O-2's, I was a TACP/ROMAD. I also spent some time with their CAP squadron while I was in HS in the 70's. BTW, do they still have the RB-57A on a pole at the base? I always loved that bird. Rick Edited February 19, 2009 by madmanrick
jmel
So the 107th FS will get to put "Red Devils" markings (see my Avatar) on their Hawgs. Here's my idea for what they ought to look like.. J Your idea is pretty close to how they're marked. The nacelles are a different, and the tails are slightly different, but you're pretty close.

Waltz41
I'm not sure, but the Selfridge guys might already have started some markings on their A-10s......I know they recieved a lot of the Battle Creek A-10s, and I know the Battle Creek jet's markings, look at this picture taken about a week ago from the Warren Grove Range in NJ.. BC jet - look at engine nacelle I've never seen those engine markings on a BC A-10....not a clear enough pic to see what it really is but.....I know also that Selfridge pilots and some of the jets are in Maryland right now.....Maybe Craig could add to this? And don't even get me started on BRAC...what a bunch of crap. Battle Creek at least has a flying mission still....Willow Grove will start losing their jets in April (Selfridge will be getting some), and as of now.....no clue what their mission will be...but most likely a headquarters/intelligence non flying job. Bull $h!+.
Fishwelding
To paraphrase a famous political line, "Son, I've seen an F-106, and the F-4 is no F-106..." True. The F-4 worked for a living. ( ) Dig the new A-10 acquisition. Maybe we'll get some decals for those birds. Edited February 20, 2009 by Fishwelding
volzj
I know it's BRAC, so logic does not apply but... Wouldn't only having to re-train one set of pilots on a new a/c rather than two have made more sense? To saying nothing of moving support equipment, retraining ground crew, etc... Tax dollars at work.

Bull $h!+. Yeah we have 6 of them while this wing crack thing gets squared away, Plan is for Selfridge to come and take them home in a few months. I don't know if they are going to repaint them here as I know they are going to do the acceptance insp here in MD before they leave so they might repaint them for a ceremony or something. I don't work on the line anymore so I am a little behind the power curve when come to stuff like this.
jester292
Interesting information guys. I have a set of SuperScale Battle Creek decals for the Monogram Hog (1/48). Haven't finished the kit yet, but would be interested in seeing the new markings. Please keep us updated! I haven't seen the BC A-10s in a while. Jennings
My, how time flies. I remember taking pics of the BC A-10s when they were still in lizard camo, before the Gulf War! Seems like yesterday. ;) J
