HobbyBoss 1/48 scale F/A-18A Hornet question.

Recommended Posts

I hear that the intakes have problems as well as other shape problems. How bad are the intakes problem compared Hasegeawa's. Also, what kind of shape problems does it have? Thanks.

I also just found out, that the hinges for the outboard flaps are in the wrong place. The out-most one should be positioned closer to the missile rail. HB put them too far from the missile rail.

Well if the Search function would work, you'd be able to find a whole list of things wrong with the kit, with photo's.

I don't know what is wrong with the Search function but I have been receiving an error message every time I use it. This started way back when the server was changed. Is it just my computer or is everyone else unable to use the search function?????

As far as the Copyboss kit its concerned, First off is the Price, it's about $7-$10 MORE than a Hasegawa kit and suffers from many tooling errors. The Intakes as you noted are grossly misshaped almost in a box configuration, even with FOD covers it would not cover the shape issue, the canopy was tooled the same as the Monogram kit with the canopy transparency molded separately from the frame, and is also a bit over scaled (you can almost place it over the Hasegawa canopy). the Landing Gear is molded in a way that the main struts are oval shaped instead of round, the nose gear torque link is about 8 scale feet long. The rivet detail on the wings runs through the scribed inspection panel detail. You do not have the option to drop the ailerons (but that's an easy fix). and although it comes with weapons some were not used on A/C versions and some seem to be miss shaped.

Okay here's a little more info -

- The Hobbyboss has vertical tails for the very early-production F/A-18As. Not correct for current F/A-18As and F/A-18A+s

- The landing gear is not as nice as the Hasegawa product

- The afterburner feathers look too big.

- Much of the ordnance is not appropriate for the early-production F/A-18As.

- There is no photo-etch like the Hasegawa kit.

I'd say more, but I gotta go to meeting....

I don't know if its CRAP, but there are issues. I am going to use the one I have as an aggressor. Prob one in a splinter scheme so the paint job can hide some of the issues.

Curt I found the link that you might be talking about. Man, that HB intake sucks and I mean crap when placed next to Hasegawa's. Here's the link to images of a comparison to parts from the Haseagwa and HobbyBoss 'C' Hornet.

Great, I guess my choice of words in the search function do not net me the results I need.

I get an error message 98% of the time, but low and behold I change to a few key words and I get a result.

Aren't intakes supposed to suck?
