Mikeew
Hi all, Help and clarification please!!! Did all Bearcats have the head rest support fitted? In Trumpeters instructions, they say that part D9 is not for use? but every pcture i can find of the F8F-1 has this fitted? I'm no expert but I think its part of the armoured headrest? Its that big piece immediately aft of the headrest... Any help or insight gratefully received!! thanks, Mike
Dave Williams
You should go ahead and add that part for the decal options provided. The Trumpeter instruction are wrong.
Ol Crew Dog
The first 17 aircraft did not have them fitted initially, they were retrofitted on most later in their career. If the picture has it add it and ignore the instructions.
Mikeew
many thanks guys, I'll add it then, seems a shame to leave it out as its nicely moulded.
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Funny...my best advice is the advice I hate the most, which is to check your references (my silent reply always being, "I wouldn't be asking if I hadn't already checked everything I've got!!!"). Some F8F-1's had them, some didn't. All I know is, for my Jolly Rogers History collection, when I did the two F8F-1's (VF-17 and VF-5B), the VF-17 bird in the photo I based mine on had the headrest, and the VF-5B bird (slightly later in date) did NOT have it.
