Here are a few shots I've tried to process a little, they didn't turn out as well as I hoped but it's too late to worry about that now.

the model is 1/48th Hasegawa kit with not to many things added. I did cut the hinges apart so I could pose the flaps and ailerons the way I wanted as it takes off from Runway 14 heading for another test here at China Lake. It's full of it's weapons but I don't like it as well as with just a couple things but it was for the CO of VX-9 and the XO asked me to put on as many things as I could find in the shot time I had to build it. I had a lot of fun building this and I think I know how to impove the build time and end product when I tackle another one.

All the markings are new too this XE-100 (as shot on 06/09/2008) and very different from all the other XE-100 decal sheets so I had to make a big portion of them. Its finish is well kept and not a lot of weathering had taken place so I didn't do much in the way of fading the paint. The "Vampire" was pulled from a photo, scaled properly, copied to frisket film, cut out masked on the tail and applied with white paint. The XE was done similarly but with yellow. The lightening bolts were cut from other decals but I wish I'd just shot them too. The Stars were inside of a red flag that I individually cut from an old Micro scale sheet for VF-111 F-4B's. The "AIRTEVRON NINE" on the spine was done with the help of my daughter in CS2. I wanted to use Illustrator but she said she could do it with CS2 so that's what we did. The ejection triangle and the other associated decals that were blue with yellow writing were done with CS2 as well.

So take a gander and all comments are welcome, so let me know what you think~!

Wow! ;) What a beauty! Turned out great! :D

We need more photo-shopping of this! Kinda like what GeeDub did in the in-progress thread.

Very nicely done

Although you didn't mention it, I'm also impressed by the plaque, complete with wings and command pin, next to the blurred runway. Very nice presentation all the way around. Congrats :worship:

Looks great!! Sorry we weren't able to help you out in time, but since this one was a build for someone else, I'm guessing you'll want to build one for yourself in the future?...

Ahhhh YES I'm gonna do another one soon I hope so where are those new decals. I do believe though I will still be painting on the bigger markings as the way they look painted on looks so nice. I need another set of the VX-23 decals too!!! So let me know when those new VX-9 decals are ready!

Ryan, yes I received the parcel and thanks much! I'll see what I can do about the F's cockpit. They have a Growler with a new scheme too that I hope to get some shots of soon...

Thanks everyone for your comments, I’m very grateful for them all!

The base:

½†Plexiglas 12†x 21â€, edges cut at 10° with a table saw then sanded and polished to a brilliant luster.

The holes for the 7/16†acrylic rods were done with a drill press. I didn’t use drills I used endmill bits and then finished up with a counterbore that was 7/16â€. Drill bits tend to grab the plastic and break it.

After that I painted the bottom flat black though when you look through the top it’s as glossy as it could be.

The blurred runway has been seen here many times and thought it looked nice so my daughter and I did this one up depicting runway 32 at China Lake. I took the 11 x 17 image to Staples and they printed it and then laminated it after it was mounted on the foam board. I left it glossy so it would be easier to clean off for the Captain.

After I had those pieces the way I wanted them and the holes cut in the runway to slip the rods though to the actual base, I had to put the engraved plate on. I thought it looked best in-between the two VX-9 coins all three provided by the XO. This whole display is portable so the Skipper can take it apart and put it in a shipping container to take it wherever he ends up.

Thanks again for all the comments

Cheers,

Larry.

Larry, that in flight Super Hornet looks just awesome! Like the loadout too. Big :P to this build!

Thanks Richard I hated to give it up but I think I'll be buildin another one for ME real soon. What the heck I already have one 1/3 built but it's the Revell kit and it needs so much work to get it done...

Appreciate the comments!

Cheers
