My recently completed Do 17 needed some fighter escort.

This is Tamiya's 1/72 109E-3, just a pleasure to build. Pretty much OOB except for some Eduard PE seatbelts. Paint is Aeromaster acrylic and decals are Crazy Modeller. Took about 2 1/2 days to complete, Jupiter must be aligned with Saturn or some sort of cosmic event.

Finished as "White 2" of 4./JG 51 operating from Marquise, France in August of 1940, piloted by Ofw. Hans Illner. Illner's combat career lasted until 5 November 1940. While flying over England in another aircraft he noticed a Spitfire coming in from behind. As an evasive maneuver he put the plane in a high speed dive but lost the starboard wing while pulling out. He was obliged to bale out and was captured.

Very nice. Better check the box - are you sure thats 1/72

He was obliged to bale out and was captured.

Sure beats the alternative.

that is simply stunning! What kind of airbrush setup do you have that allows you to do such fine mottling? Also your choices of black for the wheels and tires looks just perfect. Are those store bought shades or did you add varying amounts of white paint to black?

Ralph,

I use a Peak C-5 airbrush, the nozzle is .3 mm which allows me to get a pretty fine line. I'm using Aeromaster acrylic right out of the bottle (undilluted) and a little higher air pressure than most people probably use.

The wheels are plain old MM black for the hub and the tire is painted RLM 66, I use Tamiya Smoke for a wash and then dry brush with MM Italian Blue-Gray.

Thanks for the comments.

Mike
