moses the modeller
Hi all, I would like to join the PACAIR GB with very old and rather simple, but very nice kit - Hasegawa´s Hayate. Cockpit lacks all internal framing, seat is bit ugly and the model needs to rescribe. What camouflage ? Still do not know, probably not from the box, may be the 57th Shinbutai (Platz decal set) And here is the model. 1) Hasegawa box. Maybe older than me Edited September 19, 2008 by moses the modeller
moses the modeller
2) Rescribed fuselage. It took one week during summer vacations. 3) Rescribed wing and corrected sink mark over flaps (Surfacer 500 was enough) 4)
moses the modeller
5) Here I try to "play" with internal framing, tan longerons are stretched sprue, the white ones are Evergreen. 6) Port side already with throttle and other "sticks". Both sides done during last two evenings / nights. Edited August 22, 2008 by moses the modeller
Mark M.
Why rescribe? Incorrect lines, or lines not well defined? I'd like to find the boxing that had the red arrow markings, someday. I know Hase made a boxing like this, just can't find any.
HistnScale
Mark, what scale are you looking for? AeroMaster did that marking on their "Sprcial Attack Squadrons" sheet #48-174C. Dave
moses the modeller
Why rescribe? Incorrect lines, or lines not well defined? This is very old model with raised panel lines. Such lines make me feel it is only a childish toy, not "serious" model
johnsan
Looking good, Moses. Hasegawa's Ki-84 may be old, but it is a pretty sound kit. It's shape is pretty decent and it is well served aftermarket-wise. Platz has at least 3 sheets with some truly spectacular marking choices that are currently available for it. True Details has a resin cockpit (not a comment on your interior work) that is pretty nice and very inexpensive. Falcon and True Details have vac canopies. I'm looking forward to watching your progress on this.
achook-achook
I have built this kit twice and had fun on both occasions. Eventhough it has raised panel lines, it still make a good kit. Based on the progress shots, I believe this will come out to be a good model. Cheers,
moses the modeller
Thanks all for your comments. I am always happy to hear (or read) different oppinions, even though negative. Johnsan, you are right, I should have bought some aftermarket stuff. Well, next time and at least the True Detail cockpit. Cheers !

I meant only to point out that there are aftermarket products available for this kit. You have the chops to do this one well without the aftermarket stuff. You might want to consider a vac canopy to show off that interior, though. Like I said, I'm looking forward to following your build.

I know you ment your comments as a good advice. Nevetheless, this time I only wanted to test my skills in scratchbuilding and painting cockpits. No doubts, using resin accesories make building kits more easy and less time consuming. And here is some small progress for today - starboard side of cockpit, floor and seat support frame. Mark M.
Histnscale, I was thinking of 1/72, but it is good to know there's something in 48th if I can't find it in 72. The Hase kit I was thinking of was 72, also.
VG 33
Hi This is a very nice kit and inside I usually agree with scratch as you. Some years ago I made the Hasegawa Ki-84 with a special Aeromaster decal sheet in the box. I am looking forward to yours. Patrick

moses the modeller
Hi all, here is small progress: The seat has been rebuilt using Miliput putty and very thin plastic cards, engine only painted (Tamiya synthetics & Vallejo washes) without any scratchbuilt details. moses the modeller
Small progress for today, cockpit of the Ki84 has been painted and one more PACAIR model added, Fine Mold´s Ki-61. Now I have to make the seat belts and then (finally !!) join the fuselage halves.
moses the modeller
Two days left and I do not suppose to finish it in time. Sorry :-/
johnsan
It's a shame you won't get these finished for the GB. Please post your progress and finished models. They look like they could be very nice.
