Neptune48
A friend of mine, a retired USAAF/USAF pilot wants to build some kits and asked me about GS Hypo Cement. I've never used it but promised to ask on some of the modeling forums. Has anyone used it, and can you recommend it or not? I thank you, Jesse thanks you. illithid00
I've never tried it, but if you want a good cement, try the Testors liquid cement.
kaburaya
I've never tried it, but if you want a good cement, try the Testors liquid cement. Hi I use it for attaching canopies, great stuff. You can apply it accurately and it sticks almost instantly, but heres the big advantage if the canopy is out of alignment a gentle twist either way and it comes off cleanly. I think this glue was originally used by jewllers for attaching stones in watches. It will also fill small gaps the only disadvantage is its very stringy.
Chuck1945
It is a poor choice for assembly of a model if that is what your friend has in mind, BUT since it does not attack the plastic and dries clear, as kaburaya mentions, it does work well for clear parts. Fishwelding
If he's essentially looking for a good, non-hobby-shop (perhaps no hobby shop nearby) cement that can be had cheap, most home-and-hardware stores in the US sell MEK. That's the active ingredient in many hobby solvent adhesives, including, I believe, Testors Liquid Cement. Not a glue, but a solvent, for welding parts together. Buy it in a can, decant it to a small jar, apply with the brush.
Phantom ordie
If he's just beginning steer him toward the basic stuff. Testors liquid is just fine.
Neptune48
Thanks to all. I've passed on your remarks to Jesse. Regards, Bruce
vfa127
I'll agree with what's been said. It's great for canopies, but not for normal assembly. I've used it around the house for a few other things, but not much else in the model building world...
