 Hello, Great Work Congratulation. I just have a few time to check the forum and i found your topic and used the link you have to see your web site, i see you have a F-18D VMFA(AW) 225 Viking, I'm working on a 225 Viking too but on the early version and i'd like to know if you could give any advice. I haven't found to much references for it just a few pics on internet and i'm using the Uncovering F-18 by Daco. I should to say that i don't know to much about airplanes and their compponents but this hobby also give us the opportunity to learn.

Wich differences between early and late version of VMFA (AW) 225 could you tell me there are in order to pay attention at the moment to add or eliminate, for example, the early ver had the double chaff/flare, single chaff/flare nothing,

I'm using night attack Hasegawa F-18D 1/48 Big Eduard PE, Aires Sju-17 Seats, what else would i need.

Thanks and congratulations again for your models

One gorgeous F-18 you have there... truly superb. Beautiful build and finish. Question... How did you 'yellow'/'gold' the clear canopy... it looks tinted... or is it just the photos that make it look that way?

Hi greg,

i have tinted it with a mixture of black smoke and clear yellow inside, then dipped into the Future.

Thanks,

the reference photos are really few; I think there's not external differences but don't know about the chaff launchers so you should ask these things to Dave Roof.

Hi Simone,

Congratulation really, I love your Hornets (both Legacy and Super) in 1/48th scale. You must be the specialist of the F-18thing in quarter scale. Congrats really and I keep on tracking the F12aaa signature around..

Could you please explain a bit more on your canopy tinting.

I am currently building a both an F-18F and F-18C in 1/72nd scale. I have tried tinting canopies but I had to clean canopies in a haste because I had bad effects.

I tried to mix Future and Tamiya smoke but products did not mix well

I then tried to thinn Tamiya smoke with isopropyl alcohol but canopies turned white

I also tried to thin Tamiya smoke with water but due to water superficial tension the tint was not even and drops built with the effect of producing darker areas

all above soaking canopy in the mix.

I also tried spraying Tamiya smoke paint tinted with alcohol but result were not nearly as good as yours.

I ended up cleaning up my canopies and soaking them in Future. Canopies are shining but clear.

Could you detail a bit your technique.

Thanks and congrats again..

Eric B.

I don't really thin the Tamiya smoke, just a very few drops of isopropyl alcohol to avoid the airbrush clogging.

Then I use to airbrush at low pressure some thin coats inside the canopy, you'll get a blurred effect: wait at least half hour and dip the canopy into the Future to remove it and let dry at least one hour, you'll have the repeat this operation more than one time.

Simone.
