Supertom
Dumb question: Do the Blue Angels currently use the F-18A or C? I can't seem find any information on the type. Also, does anyone make a seated Blue Angels pilot since they don't wear flight suits?
okthree
Dumb question: Do the Blue Angels currently use the F-18A or C? I can't seem find any information on the type. Also, does anyone make a seated Blue Angels pilot since they don't wear flight suits? The Blues currently fly the A model. I haven't seen any shows where the Blue Angel pilots are naked, but I would look for a pilot with out a g-suit. Also they don't wear O2 masks. The Hasegawa modern Navy figure in 1/48 set came with a pilot head with out a mask. Edited September 12, 2008 by okthree
Phantom ordie
Thier flight suits are blue like the A/C.
VFA-103guy
As stated the Blues currently opperate the F-18A, however they are in the process of transitioning to the F-18C.
Brian P: Fightertown Decals
They don't wear G-suits but they do wear a survival harness that's integrated to the seat. Don't remember the designation but it's a helicopter harness. The still use the HGU-33 helmet but without the mask. They add a mic boom from the attachment point. Look for beat-to-crud C models flying next year. We've held out releasing our 1/32 and 1/48 Blues decals and now that they're getting C's, we'll have those in time for next show season. And that after I went and bought 4 sets of A/B tails... But I think you guys will like what we are re-working  -brian
twhite80
I have seen 2 shows where the Angels wore yellow jump suits when they flew. I will be interested to see the Angels in Charlie hornets. I wish that they could do what the Thunderbirds do and fly the newer jets (Super Hornets) but I also understand why they fly the beaters. I have a couple of photos where you can see the landing gear doors all beat up, even crumpled a bit. But this was also at the end of the Airshow season.
Brian P: Fightertown Decals
The yellow suits were special for the 60th Anniversary. I don't believe they're still using them. It took my by surprise when I first saw them and really wasn't a fan, but something about them did grow on me... The blue suits are just sharp! -brian Then there's the Thunderbird and their red, white, blue, gray, green suits...leave it to the AF to try and color coordinate different days with different outfits
twhite80
That makes sense. I was supposed to have dinner with the Blue Angels in Phoenix that year, but my grandfather died and the funeral was in Oshkosh Nebraska on the same day. My aunt who got me the invite took some of my photos from the Lincoln airshow just a few weeks earlier and had them all sign it for me. I love the blue angels!
GreyGhost
I'm not sure now but the Blues wore the yellow suits on Sundays in the past ... Gregg Edited September 13, 2008 by GreyGhost
