Aigore
And that was the painting part (of the weathering) done. I painted around panellines and faded here and there and made irregular bettering painting spots here and there with a light grey, FS35475. Then I used FS36329 for darker spots and bettering painting. Next I will gloss coat the whole thing and then decals, after that I´ll go in with filters, washes and pigments :D Cheers! Aigore
Getting to the decals... Ok, first a gloss varnish...Pledge/Klear/Future per usual. Then a bit of masking for detail painting... White in the wells and metal around the gun muzzle And finally I decided on VA-37 "Bulls", mostly because I like USS Forrestal :P Next I´ll seal the decals and then it´s time for washes, filters and pigments :D Cheers! Aigore
Weathering! well it´s down to washes and pigments :D First a panel wash...dark brown, I want to play with the blue tones of the paint and add earth tones to give it warm weathering. Wipe it off, sits really subtly in the panels doesn´t bother the eyes at all :D Then a brown filter.... I stopple it with a spunge. And get an uneven tan tint. Next pigments, I used 3 different pigments, umber, grey brown and black to accentuate oil spill, dirt and streaks. Then I sealed the weathering with a matte coat....really like how it came together....really grimy and dirty :P To do are under carriage, doors, pylons, antennae, position lights, weapons and final assembly :D Cheers! wardog
Aigore, Great tutorial on your weathering process! I saved this build as a bookmark so I can reference it when I get to that point on my current build. Also, contrary to what I've heard other people suggest, you used a dark brown wash as opposed to a bluish black for a TPS scheme. I'm thinking the brown works really well as the end result look outstanding! Regarding the pigments that you're using, are they just a re-branded version of pastel chalks, or something different? I've noticed manufacturers that cater to this hobby will take a common item and re-brand it, then charge twice the amount of money, or more for it. Case in point, I bought Loctite super glue at Walmart for 3 US dollars; at a local hobby shop a bottle of super glue was 8 dollars. Anyway, great job on this build! Finn
Very well done, it looks very realistic. In case you want to add a little extra touch, when the cleaning the windscreen the Plane Captain would use the refueling probe to stand on: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/6349739 no doubt a few dirty foot prints and scuffs would be in that area. Aigore
Just a quicke update... Used the Furball canopy seal decals...wasn´t sure I´d use them at first but they kind of liven things up a bit so I´ll leave them on :D Cheers!
