PA A-10s Last Deployment

Recommended Posts

The first cell of 6 A-10s returned today from the 111th FW, PA ANG to Willow Grove, PA...with jets from KC and ID used in the three unit deployment. With BRAC (don't even get me started :shoot: ), the 111th is scheduled to lose their A-10s starting in the spring, so this is most likely their last deployment with their current mission. The Air Force website had a little article up on them, and here are some pictures from today.

Growing up in New Jersey, I remember when these guys transitioned from the OA-37s to the A-10s...one of my favorite Hog units, very nice guys...spent many days watching em both at the grove and in the skies of Jersey...wish it was another unit and not them...happen to catch one transient on the line at Warfield ANGB here in Maryland the other day...sad to hear(BRAC-bs related aircraft cutbacks). :shoot:

Here's one of the photos I took from the 111th redeployment:

I hate to hear of anyone getting BRAC'd, so let's hope that the drawdowns will finally stop.

Awesome shot Jeff!!! Love the fireworks

Living about ten miles from "the Grove" I'm going to really miss seeing these guys in the skies overhead. I still always look for them when I hear that distinctive A-10 whine. I spent many a luch time in the past when they had the open access parking near the approach end, watching touch and go's. Maybe they will be spared yet.

Nice shots! I was doing "touch and goes" in the P-3 Orion as the A-10s rolled in. Tower cleared us to a right downwind so we all got a good look as they broke into the pattern. Willow Grove has always been a nice place to "bounce". Any info on the F-84F in partial Thunderbird markings at the end of the ramp?

The AF wrote off the Hawg once before, they came back. GO UGLY EARLY! Unless they start scrapping them immediately they'll be showing their ugliness yet again. As with the C-47 the only replacement is another C-47. So it goes for the A-10.

Great shots! Sorry to see another GREAT A-10 unit go the way of the dodo bird.

Did you get any shots of the other Boise birds?

Thanks!

- Tom

Tom, here's the other two ID birds, 611 and 653....4 total from each KC, ID, and PA went.

Ah...so you were WARLOCK 8 huh :worship: ? Always nice to see some transient stuff in, esp. the old P-3 who used to be there a lot with VP 66 and VP 64. Caught some shots of you before you 'took the river route to Stewart', right?

That F-84 is being restored by the DVHAA muesuem....I've heard some rumors that they are going to do it as a PA ANG jet, but who knows. Anyways....not to change the thread, but here you are Warlock 8!

Yeah! I'm in the Flight Engineer seat, saw you in the parking lot snapping pics. We're an "NP-3D" out of NAS Pax River (notice the lack of bomb bay and sono buoy chutes...don't ask) . Nice ride up the Hudson past Mnhatten, Stewart was empty and sunny so we got a good amount of approaches done up there, beautiful country up that way.

Yeah that was me, was up there for the A-10s return but when you guys showed up it was a little 'bonus' so thanks for stopping by and.....thanks for the info on the plane as well.

Hey Waltz41,

Thanks for the Hawg shots - way too quite around CT/BDL since the 103rd got nerfed;

liners are fine for practice, and when a special mod comes through,

but nothing beats Mil, and the Hawg is a special beast...right Tom?!

Thanks for posting so I can get my Hawg fix -

Mike
