Zvezda Mi-26 Halo - 1:72 scale

Recommended Posts

Beat me to it Ken! Can't order mine just yet - credit card bill hasn't come back from Telford yet :salute: and there's a glut of other stuff I've got on pre-order that is imminent. Will probly get one in the new year - no rush anyway as I'm waiting for the Begemot decals

Had a good look at this in Jamiesons models in Glagow on Thursday morning. The kit is pretty impressive, a nicely detailed interior and flight deck, various doors open or closed, nice crew fig's and main rotors moulded on "bent" sprues!! I've got one put aside for later in the month, and heli's aren't my normal cup of tea.

The only thing I've heard is that the main cockpit windshield is moulded too flat, i.e when offered into position is too wide (by 1cm apparently!!) and will need some remedial action to rectify. Looking at the sprue shots here - http://scalemodels.ru/modules/myarticles/a...oryid_1272.html I wondered if you could just separate the 5 individual windows and glue them in one at a time and fill the gaps at the pillars, or leave the 2nd and 4th windows (DV windows) open. These open outwards and slide aft as in the 1st picture here - http://www.aviastar.org/helicopters_eng/mi-26.php.

Looks like a very nice kit though even if this is correct.

Just got mine, and I am very impressed.

I aint no Mil helicopter expert, but it is an awesome kit.

For those who get one, here is a walkaround you may find useful,

Andy, could you check the windscreen fit? Apparently some people have trouble with windscreen, while others doesn't.

PS: And your link doesn't work. :(

Not good news, the windscreen on my kit is as reported. Its too wide. It can be squeezed into place but then the top edge is out.

A possible solution is to score the inside of the framing and bend gently. Or seperate the 2 side panels and fit them after the windscreen.

Oh, the link works for me !!! :(

Cheers

Damn! I hope Zvezda have a problem with their molds or something, and that it can be fixed soon.

When i click your link fire fox asks me what i want to do, save or open the link. Never happened before to me with a site link. It only happens when i download a file or something.

My Zvezda Mi-26 arrived in the post a couple of days ago.

I don't intend to start it just yet - but I have checked the windscreen glazing - and mine also has the same problem.....

I don't think its a moulding problem - clearly some kits are OK - see Kotey's example.

I think it has more to do with the packaging....

Here is the clear sprue in my kit.......

Glaze_01.jpg

As you can see, there is only a single entry gate for the whole windscreen.

When it comes out of the mould it probably has the correct curvature - but there is no support top and bottom - so the windscreen simply gets squashed flat in the box.....

This is the clear sprue edge-on - you can see that the ends will get flattened if any weight is applied - say by the other sprues in the box....

Glaze_02.jpg.

This photo shows the glazing as it comes (in my kit at least) - it is 'flattened'.....

Glaze_03.jpg

This is it squeezed by my fingers into what it should look like..... it is quite flexible!

Glaze_04.jpg

I am hoping that I can replace my fingers with a fixed jig to hold it at the correct curvature - and maybe apply heat (hot water or hair dryer) until it 'sets'

If that fails, I shall write to the trader who supplied it - asking for a replacement part.

Maybe you could do some cuts with the razor saw on the inside of the of the framing to alleviate the stress on the part? That way you wouldn't have to heat it.

<...> I think it has more to do with the packaging.... <...>

...which, for some strange reason, is notoriously bad on Zvezda kits. I have yet to find a Zvezda kit that didn't have broken parts on the sprues or parts broken off the sprues upon opening the box for the first time.

 Ya crazy german!

Hot water don't do damage to plastic, if you are careful.

Can't remember having same problems as you Moritz. I have Zvezda La-5 in 1/48, and MiG-25. And when i remember that the pe-8 box is very steady one, but is a tad to big.

Hello!

On third watching i didn't notice that on decal sheet is missing third star that going on down side of Mi-26! On box star is on place! is box art wrong or decal sheet? or it is nice way to buying Mi-26 decals from begemot? :o

I noticed that difference between kit and box art too but put it out of my mind as I really didn't want to put a decal on all that "corregation" on the underside anyway  (cover art doesn't show the "ribbing" under there that the kit has)

Cheers

Just received my Zvezda Mi-26 and it looks like Zvezda got the news on the windscreen problems; in my kit the windscreen had its own little cardboard box (originally the packaging of a Zvezda SciFi-figure). The Zvezda box actually is a pleasant surprise: sturdy, roomy and a separate lid! The extra little box with the windscreen fits in easily.

Knowing Revell I expect their packaging to be a lot worse than Zvezda's; somehow on Revell kits I have hardly ever managed to squeeze the contents back into their box! :(

I emailed Zvezda about it - following Kotey's post that they would try to replace parts.

I wrote n English - then used an on-line translator to convert it to Russian - so they got both.

So, far, no reply.............

Like Ross says, it shouldn't be a big deal to fix it - I was just seeing if I could get a reaction from Zvezda.....

Guy Holroyd at Linden Hill (US importer of Begemot) said that they'd delayed the Mi-26 sheet due to committments for outside print jobs that take priority. It'll be at least April.
