I sure hope that no one minds me posting up some pics of an AAHF AH-1F. I have several more pics and I will upload more later, as long as no one minds extra pics of Cobras....... I have TH-1H and HH-65C shots too.....but they will be for a different thread.

Brandon,

Was that the AH-1F at the airshow last weekend? Man, I was really bummed that I didn't find out about that. I was at home alone with no wife and kids! Oh well, maybe next year. Great to see a CARC F model still flying. thanks for the photo!

Not only was the -F there, but he had friends with him.

Incidentally, let me know if you are going to make it to the Tuscaloosa show. AAHF will be there, like last year. I don't remember if they are going to do rides or rides and the fourship demo. I will check into that. I will be there Friday through Sunday most likely.

Oh, and there was a HH-65C at Maxwell too.

Alrighty then, here you go with a couple more Cobra shots. All of these pics are only resized, I can zoom into any particular area if there is a detail you need. Taken at the Maxwell airshow.

If it is a bad thing that I posted these up, and you want me to move them to a new thread, then let me know.

AH-1G several variants. Early Gs had blue tinted canopies and the tail rotor was on

the left side of the fin, and no air conditioner installed.. Then the tail rotor

was moved to the right side – AC installed more tail rotor authority but a

little less power. Some had the M-35 20mm cannon installed on the left

wing. My assigned bird was a 20 bird. The gun drove the SCAS crazy.

3150 hrs in type, 820 HRs combat in Viet Nam,

(1971-72, 1972-76) D/229th 1st CAV Viet Nam, 349th Avn, 48th Avn

Ansbach FRG

AH-Q G Model with the TOW system installed.

Way under powered. Three units deployed. One at Ft Hood, 11th ACR and

2nd ACR in Germany.

I HAVE 300 Hr in this type. (1976-77) 2nd ACR Fuecht AAF FRG

AH-1R - One prototype (that I know about) -- G Model with Larger Engine and improved drive train.

Had the M-35 20MM installed and was thought to be used for Escort duty .No TOW System

AH-1S(mod) - basically a Q model with upgraded engine and drive train.

300 hrs in type (1977-79, 1980-1981 )

AH-1S(PROD) – bigger engine and drive train, flat plate canopy, new production

aircraft. 275 hrs in type (1979-80, 1983-85)

A Trp 2/17 Cav, Ft Campbell KY, B Trp 1/17 Cav, Ft Hood, TX

AH-1S(PROD)gmc – a G model remanufactured to PROD standard in Amarillo plant.

Weighed about 200-300 pounds more than a new PROD.

About 100 hrs in type. (1979-80) A Trp 2/17 Cav, Ft Campbell KY

AH-1S(ECAS)- weapons upgrade(sort of) - the turreted 20MM 3 barreled gun added.

The rocket system was not operational in the ECAS for several years.

1 Hr in type.( that was all that was needed for transition.)

1982 A Trp 2/17 Cav, Ft Campbell KY

AH-1S(FMC) final production version. Laser tracker, the works.

325 hrs in type (1981-83) B Co. 501st Avn Bn, Ansbach, FRG

In the late 1980s the Army deiced to simplify the designations and started to upgrade as many as the could afford to what we called the FMC. And they changed the designation to AH-1F for all variants. Damn it got confusing trying to keep up. Glad I moved on the AH-64A.

I have photos of most of the variant and will try to post them soon.

Brandon,

Those pics are awesome! I hope i can make the Tuscaloosa show. Of course with my luck there will be rain and hail and no AAHF birds!
