SebastianP
Hi all! I've been away from aircraft modeling for a little while, been having too much fun modeling ships instead (not done with them yet), but since my current batch is all still drying, I thought I'd do something with one of my hangar queens that I haven't touched in ages... A good long while ago I put away a buttoned up, but essentially unpainted Hasegawa Longbow (1/48 version), since I couldn't decide what to do with it and it really isn't my favorite scale anyway (though it's one of my favorite kits, go figure). I've decided to do something completely (well, not really) off the wall with it, and rather than boring green, it's going to be... boring gray, in the spirit of three, maybe four group builds it could have qualified for had it been started later. (Helo group build and What-if group build here, Gray Pride on Whatifmodelers, and possibly the Marines GB here as well). The question of the hour is whether to use the USMC decal sheet left over from my aborted AH-1Z, which has the correct colors (more or less), or use the Army decals in the Hasegawa box... Cheers, SP
C-130CrewChief
I would say use the Marines decals. If you are realy feeling the what if vibe throw on some USAF decals and make it an escort for CSAR! :( I was realy thinking of doing that myself! Why be normal, and welcome back to the world of avation! Curt
Cobrahistorian
Trigger's got a wicked RESCORT USAF Gunship Gray scheme for the Longbow in his WhIf collection.
C-130CrewChief
I have decide to do my 1/32 Apache as one. As I typed that last reply I decided that a weather radar and a refueling probe and a coat of gunship grey was just what the doctor had oedered! Cobra could you link Trigger's escort? If you know where it is off hand. Curt

As for the refueling probe, it would have to be mounted under the Forward Avionics Bay and would have to retract to aft of the TADS field of view. A tall order, but I think it can be done. vanilla gorilla
I vote for the USMC scheme. Just don't forget the balding tires, frankensteined panels, touched up paint spots and LOTS of dirt and grime..just the way a Marine bird should be. VG
marine4 ever
i would agree with VG being that the corps asked the Gov for refitted Apaches both in the 80's and early 90's but where denied due to cost. I'd say a Marine Apache would be sweet. But heck i'm sorta biased. Semper Fi Dan
vanilla gorilla
It would be tough looking. I might even paint the under coat a version of the Army-green scheme and lay the Marine grey over it, really lightly in some worn out spots so the "old" green shows through. Give it that "home made" look, combined with some heavy weathering. VG

Cobrahistorian
Na, Huuaaa Sarge!!! That's HOOAH, Marine! Damn, do we Army pukes have to teach you everything? ;) Marine Apaches would be interesting, but with the AH-1Z, you're almost there as far as total capability and the Zulu (and Whiskey for that matter) does perform SOME missions better than the Apache, escort being one of them.
