Hi.

This will be my WIP-thread for this GB.

I'm building a Barak I (F-16D Blk 30) from IDF/AF Test Sqn Manat.

This is what I have to work with.

Well lets get this show on the road.

I've cleaned up the spine and glued it to the fuselage.

The cleanup was very easy. Just a thin mould line on the underside.

I've got some small pinholes in the end of the spine but it shouldn't be any problem filling it.

I also have a gap in the front but I think I should be able to fill that with CA and putty.

I choose to shave of the antenna just aft of the canopy. I was in the way for the spine and I would have lost it anyway when dealing with the gap.

I'll just have to scratchbuild a new one later on.

20090201543.jpg

Then its on to the cockpit.

I've just started some work on the front office.

I've shaved of the grillwork on the backwalls and substituted it with PE.

20090201544.jpg

The same has been done to the front IP.

I don't know if my set came without the IP-film or if I've lost it.

So the MFD and instruments will have to painted.

20090201545.jpg

20090201546.jpg

So now this kit is started. I sure hope this will be a fun build.

I've never used this much PE on a aircraft before. But I've built some ships with full PE.

The PE parts here is just a little smaller than ships parts.

Now on to the seats.

More will follow.....

Be aware that if building the Manat CK-1 all images of the aircraft show it with the extended nose pitot with the yaw and pitch vanes attached to the front end of the pitot.

Hi Craig,

CK-1, I thought that was No 601, a Block 40 Delta.

I'm building No 020 a Block 30 Delta.

Does all Manat aircraft have the extended probe?

Hi Bosse

A new and interesting subject.

Patrick

Thanks Patrick.

I thought this would be the perfect place to use the Manat decals. Otherwise I don't think I would have used them.

Hi.

A new update.

I'm working on the cockpit and there is a lot of parts that has to be replaced or enhanced with PE here.

I'm doing this build with Eduard PE-set as a trial.

I have Aires F-16D resin cockpit. I'll be using that in a later build to see which one I like the best.

First of the ejectionseats.

One done and one kit stock.

20090201547.jpg

20090201548.jpg

Here I've used my Etchmate 3C for the folding. It's a great tool. Before I had it, I used pliers, rulers, pincer etc. You name it, I've used it.

These 90/90 U-shaped bend could take forever to do. And when you were done it wasn't as straight as it is now with this folding tool.

And to fold four rails for the ejectionseats took me about five minutes to do.

So my advice to anyone out there who like to work with PE, as myself. Get a folding tool, You won't regret it. It's the best investment I've ever made so far for my hobby.

The Etchmate set me back some 90€, but it will last a lifetime.

(And Yes I know. An airbrush also comes handy. I'm looking for one now. When my taxreturn comes this summer I'll buy myself one. I wonder which brand?)

Aft cockpit tub

20090202549.jpg

Aft IP. This is actually made up of three PE Parts.

20090202550.jpg

I've also started on one of the seat themselves. I added the seatbelt to one of them.

20090202551.jpg

20090202552.jpg

I choose to glue the seatbelts prior to painting for a number of reasons.

Mainly because the seatbelts are glued to the side of the cushion and you can't get to that after glueing the seat together and secondly the CA-glue sticks better to clean plastic.

I'll finish this seat and do the second seat plus the cockpit sidewalls tomorrow, perhaps I even have time to start painting the cockpit.

All this took me about two hours to do. Isn't this a great hobby?

Thanks for watching

This is gonna be awesome!!!

I love your work so far!great...

Cheers

Thanks Jack-Swiss. :bandhead2:

I think this way of building is great.

I get to enjoy myself and other at the same time.

Could it get any better?

I think not.

Actually I'm now planning my own IDF/AF build to fit in to the coming GB's.

I've been a "lurker" here on ARC for soo many year I thought it was better to contribute what ever I can/know instead than to remain in the shades.

Thanks again for your support.

Best Regards and Good Night.

Hi.

Well I'm home from work today nursing a rather bad cold.

But not so bad that I couldn't do some work on my build.

Heres what I've done so far today.

I front IP needed a few more PE parts.

20090204553.jpg

20090204555.jpg

And then I laid the first coat on the IP's

20090204556.jpg

The ejectionseats are almost finished. Just need to add the ejctorhandles and some parachuterigging.

I did a testfit in the tub, and it just barely fits. I'm not going to need any glue on them.

I also puttied the small gap I have in the frontend of the spine.

20090204558.jpg

Well being home alone, and you can take only soo much daytime TV I sat down and put the Paragon Delilahs together.

I think they look real nice.

20090204557.jpg

Thats it for now. But I think this cold will keep me home for the rest of the week so I might be able to some more work on this build the coming days.

Now I'm of for a shot of coughmedicin.

Thanks for looking and Best Regards

Well with the kids in school/at daycare and the wife at work.

With all that time on hand I just had to continue this.

Here is something you don't see everyday.

Red Delilahs

20090204559.jpg

I've painted the cockpits a second time.

20090204560.jpg

The seats also has got their first coat

20090204561.jpg

I discovered that the Thunderbird release of this kit comes without droptanks.

So I had a run through the stash and found another Hasegawa F-16D that I rob of its tanks.

(I'll build that later with Isras 600 gallon tanks and GBU-15's.)

I don't really know what I'm doing wrong when doing droptanks.

I never seem to get them quite right.

20090204562.jpg

I always end up with seams to fill.

I also fill the spinal gap a bit more with Mr Surfacer 500.

20090204563.jpg

20090204564.jpg

I'll finish them of with some Mr Surfacer 1000 later on.

Now I think I've done all I can do on this build today.

So thankfully I have my Kurnass to turn to now.

Best Regards

Thanks for the kind word and support Guys.

Well I'm still inside the cokpit working.

The consoles has had their black

20090205565.jpg

I've added some side console to the cockpit wall

20090205566.jpg

My favorite of the day.

The Red Delilahs painted a second time.

20090205567.jpg

I can't get enough of them. I do have to find some calibration marks/decals for them.

I'll have a run through my left-overs and see if I can find something suitable.

The Mfd's got a coat of green paint.

20090205568.jpg

I paint this with a bit of pointed sprue. What's leftover from when you've heatstreatched is absoultley perfect for detailpainting.

Just dip in paint and let the capilariflow take care of the rest.

The Spinal Gap is also fixed.

20090205569.jpg

I've also continued on the seats. They've been painted a second time and are now drying, waiting for some more PE and more painting.

Being home with a cold has its benefits. But I'm sure I'll NOT be saying the same when I get a reduced paycheck next month.

Maybe I'll continue with this build this evening maybe not, We'll see.

That's it for now...

Well this seem to be a rather laidback GB. I get the feeling I'm the only one building?

That can't be it!

It must be that I'm addicted to updating.

Well so be it. Come spring and I don't have the time for this.

Then my cottage takes all my weekends.

But now I had some more time to work.

The seats have some paint laid on them.

20090205570.jpg

I've also detail the the cockpit console with white and a drybrush of silver.

20090205571.jpg

The remaining sideconsole are also in place.

20090205572.jpg

Maybe I taken too many pic of my build. But since this is only my second GB (and my third WIP) I think when it comes to something you don't see every day a lot of pic can help.

Especially if english isn't your (first)language.

I've not done the Eduard-trail before on an aircraft so if I this is too picture intensive, Just say so.

As allways comments are ALLWAYS welcome.

Hello, Bosse.

No, you aren't the only one building.

My primary effort right now is in the Tomcat GB.

I'm doing some minor things on the F/A-18E now and then, like glueing the halves of the vertical tail surfaces together.

I haven't started a thread yet, but I enjoy visiting yours.

I love the red Delilahs.

Cheers, Stefan.

Nice going Bosse :D

And there is nothing wrong with your thread, I think a 6 month GB will be more laid back than our last encounter on The IDF 3 month GB.

Your not alone BTW, there is a Typhoon brewing.....

Cheers, Ian :worship:

I loved watching your IDF GB build, and this one looks to be shaping up just as well!

Really very nice, wouldnt be a Flight Test GB without a Viper or ..six?

Great to hear that you're working Guys, I really didn't think otherwise.

And thanks for your continued support.

Now I'm off to do some more PE work.

That is if I can get over the shock that Hasegawa gave me with the all plastic Sufa.

Now what am I going to to to my three Isra conversion sets? Build them of course, what else.

Well I've been busy today.

I woke early, before the kids, and started building.

All PE on the sideconsoles is in place.

20090206573.jpg

The canopy latches almost drove me out of my mind. They are about 1x3mm in size and of course inclued a 180 degree fold.

After that fold you have to find the piece and then glue it to the side of the cockpit sill, not an easy task.

I think this was the trickiest moment so far.

I also mounted the cockpits to the lower fuselage.

20090206574.jpg

I had time to add some more detail to the IP's before the kids awoke.

20090206575.jpg

Fast forwards to this afternoon. One breakfast for three kid and a visit with the wife to IKEA later.

I've added some steelbands to the droptanks.

20090206576.jpg

All three done. They look a million times better with these bands than before. (despite the slight missalignment.)

The Eduardset even comes with caps for the fueltanks.

20090207577.jpg

I've started to paint the droptanks now so they should soon be ready.

I've mounted the IP's to the cockpit tubs. I also put the PE footpedals in place.

20090207578.jpg

The first coat of paint is down on the sideconsoles.

20090207579.jpg

This will have to painted at least a second time and of course some details will have to picked out.

So the fuselage is almost ready for closing up. Some more painting, a few bits more of PE to the seats and then the cockpits are done.

Then its on the the undercarriages. There is a lot of PE for them also. :)

Hi, Just a short update today.

Being sick all last week I had some catching up to do at work, so I was kind of late coming home.

But I felt I had to to some work on my build to take my mind of work.

So tonight I could close the fuselage.

But before I did I glued two large lead sinkers in the front.

The spine is rather heavy so not to risk a potential tail-sitter.

I thought it was better to be safe than sorry.

20090209580.jpg

Then the fuselage halves could be glued together.

From what I can see at this stage the fit seams OK.

20090209581.jpg

And I've glued three PE pieces in the front landingearbay to give it a bit more detail.

Thankfully the bottom piece covers a rather nasty ejectionmark that didn't require any sanding now. ^_^

20090209582.jpg

That's it for tonight.

Next time, Inlet and Outlet.

Thanks for watching and Best Regards

Hope your feeling better Bosse,

Yuor cockpit details are coming along nicely. More fiddly work, just like the Vatour :woot.gif:

Nice one Bosse ^_^

Cheers, Ian

Thanks Ian.

I'm OK now. It was just one of those colds from Hell.

Yeah, fiddly bits. Why take the easy route when there is a hard one
