McConnell Thuds

Recommended Posts

Having spent a good chunk of yesterday scouring my references and online sources, I haven't had luck finding a single photo showing a McConnell-based F-105D, in SEA camo, that had seen combat in that theater. There are a number of silver-painted Thuds, but none in camo.

I'm aware of thirty-odd Thunderstick-II aircraft that were based here, but none saw action at that time. Has anyone seen photos of an aircraft with MD, ME, or MF tail code? Thanks in advance.

David Anderton's "Republic F-105 Thunderchief" has a shot of a KS ANG D landing at McConnell (you can see my old neighborhood in the background!) in SEA camo but with no tail codes, three great shots of ME-coded F-105F 63-8300, and one shot of F-105D 61-0080 with MF tail code and T-Stick mod.

James Greer's "Republic F-105 Thunderchief Wing and Squadron Histories" has a ton of color pics of camo'd 23rd TFW Thuds.

Unfortunately, I can't post them on the forum.

Two books that any Thud fanatic NEEDS to have:

http://www.amazon.com/Roll-Call-Photograph...4554&sr=1-1

http://www.schifferbooks.com/newschiffer/b...isbn=0764316680

In the 2nd book, there's more color pics of camo'd MD, ME and MF coded aircraft than you can shake a stick at! The author (James Geer) is the son of a good friend of mine who has a lot of the photo credits in there. Besides the photography and explanation of the various units, there's some nice profiles in the back of the book as well.

All other Thud books pale in comparison and serve only as supplements to the above two IMHO!
