Cobrahistorian
Hey all, Quick armor-related question. I've got a PaK 43 that I'm having restored and I need a good FS and RZM match for Panzer yellow. Obviously, Model Master paint isn't going to quite cut it, since I'll need fairly large quantities, but an FS number to start with would be great! Jon
Grey Ghost 531
You're working on a 1:1 PAK 43? Spray a swatch of whatever model paint color you want on a card and take it to an automotive paint specialist. They'll stick it in a machine, scan it and mix up an exact match for you. I'm not sure if you can get a flat paint but it might be better to have a gloss in 1:1. You could probably dump a bunch of talc into the gloss to flatten it if that's what you need. And one more requirement: pictures, lots of pictures. Posted here of course. Edited March 6, 2009 by Grey Ghost
JasonB
Heres a link to an FS chart. I'm not sure that any color that model paint companies call Panzer Yellow has an FS number. Its not the same shade between brands, so I wouldn't be too worried about an exact match to any specific shade. Krylon makes or made a spray primer in a yellow color that was a good match as well. On this chart, I would go for something like the FS 30266 Yellow Sand or 23275 Earth Yellow http://www.chassis-plans.com/paint_fed-std-595.html

The link I posted should be of help then. It's German so the shipping won't be too bad. The paint is about 20 bucks a liter.

The paint is about 20 bucks a liter. I appreciate the link! Just forwarded it to the American Battlefield Monuments Commission who are overseeing the restoration. I'll be on Omaha Beach on 6 June to inspect it! I looked at the color you sent and some of the other "dark yellow" shades. Looking at the plate on the fender and the top of the barrel under the armor, there is still some original paint there. I think the darker of the two shades is probably more appropriate.
