LF 1/48 Hasegawa or Revell SH-3H Sea King

Recommended Posts

Would you consider over $100? I just saw on Dragons website yesterday a new special release for $116!!!!!!!! That is just simply outrageously expensive IMHO!!!!!!!!!

Just did a quick search for it now and couldn't find it. But it was like $116.

Jennings,

I will sell my surplus Hasegawa Seakings for cheaper than that one on Ebay and I will probably save you some money on the shipping also. That is if you are interested. LMK!

How many do you have, and what is your asking price?

Justin,

The surplus versions that I have are the Japanese (JASDF) versions. There is some varience in this version and the regular release. However if you are going to use the kit to model the earlier version (SH-3D) then the parts that are different will not used anyway. Since to do the earlier SH-3D you will be replacing the sponsons anyway. I can sell this version for $40 plus shipping. Let me know if I can help you with any of them.

I'm not quite sure I follow you on how to do the SH-3D... what do you mean "replacing the sponsons"? Sorry, i've just got back into modelling in the last year after a 8 year break - so my understanding is limited :) I am interested though. thanks!

cheers,

Justin

Justin,

Yes the Hasegawa kit is a later version of the Seaking, an SH-3H to be exact. The earlier SH-3D was more of a cargo and transport helo, and more ASW gear, such as chaff, flares and sunobouy's were incorprated into the airframe. Much of this added gear was incorporated into the sponsons, making then larger, wider and much different looking. Over the years, two companies made direct resin replacements for the Hasegawa sponsons to backdate them to the earlier SH-3D configuration. Cutting Edge (long gone, OOP) was one and Belcher Bits was the other. IMO the Belcher Bits are better looking, readily available, and are much more economical. Steve Belcher has shipping and service to the U.S. from Canada which cannot be matched by any other Canadian resin parts supplier. He also had a killer decal sheet for several schemes for Canadian Seakings and the different sponson that he sells will be required. Darren Roberts/Steel Beach has one decal sheet for the 1/48th scale Seaking that has 1 SH-3D and he is planning another sheet that will have additional schemes for the earlier versions. Check them out! I hope this helps!
