Ro-Gar Hobbies
I been wanting to enter, but due to another project I held off. Now that I finished my other project I am ready to get in on this. Here is a look at what I will be working with. The ESCI 1/72 Hercules C-130 Mk.I/.II R.A.F. kit. Basically a C-130E with addtional parts. I will be using the Sky's decal sheet for the Entebbe Raiders. Other than the markings the kit will be built mostly out of the box. I will start posting my progress next weekend. In the mean time, if anyone has any info on the kit, decals or the bird that I am going to build, please don't hesitate to let me know. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Israel---Ai...d=&next_id= Regards, Robert Edited April 1, 2009 by Ro-Gar Hobbies
Andrew Doppel
Hi Robert, I'm currently building the same kit but the later addition. If you didn't already know the platform of this kit is actaully an E as the H model had different intakes on the RHS and the sponson was longer on the H as well. I built this kit initially when i was about 13 or 14 years old painting it up as a RAAF C-130H until I worked this out, i then hand painted it as a RAAF C-130E before sanding it back and doing it again with spray cans. I'm now re-doing it again but this time it will be done with new Aussie decals etc etc. I wish you the best. There is a company in Australia that has conversions sets for the E to H conversion but I haven't seen them for a while. I don't know if you have anything similar where you are based. Regards Andrew P.S. You should be able to see the differences in my banner as they are basically on the starboard side. Edited March 16, 2009 by Andrew Doppel
Ro-Gar Hobbies
Thanks Andrew, I just don't have enough information for either version. Would you happen to have any specific pictures or websites that would point out the differences between the two versions? That way I can determine if its worth the trouble to try to fix the problems myself. Regards, Robert
JeskiM
Robert, I completed an Entebbe Raider ()Italeri boxing) in Jan. for the IDF GB. Entebbe Raider build . I used some reference pics (mostly from Airliners.net) as to ascertain how the ac looks with antennas, paint, etc. I used the same decals as you are using.....had some issues with the Propeller warning decals that go on the fuselage, they are quite fragile.....do not let them soak for too long. Do some other decals first to get the idea how long to soak them, the decals come off the backing paper very quick. I really like this version of the ac, it'll look awesome when completed. - Matt

Regards, Robert Hi Robert, I was going to suggest you try ADF Serials but the picture links are missing so you can't see the photos. Try Googling RAAF C-130 variants and I'm sure you'll get plenty of pics. Even the C130 Gallery on ARC should have some reference pics. Sorry I couldn't help more than that. Andrew Doppel
Here you go Robert and on the right (starboard) side too. The first link is the H model and the RAAF Museum's E model in the second link http://www.flickr.com/photos/30041312@N03/3232742473/ http://www.airforce.gov.au/raafmuseum/exhi...l/lockheed2.htm You can see the intakes are very different to those of the kit. regards Andrew
Ro-Gar Hobbies
I was on vacation away from work last week and was hoping to get some serious building done, but of course my better half had other ideas! Anyway, I was able to get some progress done before the honey do list was handed over. Here you can see what I did to correct the space on the engine housings. I also took a pic of an engine, will have to scribe in the door as it will depected in the up position. The wheel wells had a few push out marks that needed to be filled, I punched out some discs with my Waldron set and glued them in place and sanded them flush. A couple of pictures of the completed cockpit ready to be glued to the fuse. Once I glued the window to the fuse and were dry, I proceeded to used liquid mask to cover the windows. You will also notice the primed area just below the windows. The kit had gun doors on the port side of the aircraft for the gunship version that needed to be covered up. The kit provides the covers, you then need to putty them over to hide the fact that they were there as the standard, everyday C-130 didn't have them otherwise. Hajo L.
Italeri: Raised details/panellines, but good fit and better looking shape Esci: Better interiour (if you have a Gunship), recessed panellines, weird looking shape of the wings (outer engine pylons are higher than the inner ones!), clear parts for the cockpit are molded as a big, single peace to cover the whole front section which sucks if you don´t want to use a lot of putty. Credible Sport YMC-130 H
Entebbe Raiders: No they were not C 130 E's 2 Were C 130 H's with the short wheel sponson and 1 was a C 130 H-2 with the extended wheel sponson and 1 KC-130 H with the extended wheel sponson. You will need the Rons resin kit to lengthen the wheel sponsons, plus add the Larger Air condiotner intake on the right hand forward fuselage. in 1/72 or 1/48 scale. Plus the engines Nacelles are longer. Here is a list of the Israeli C 130's. The difference betwen the Italeri and Esci Kits apparantly is the Esci kit has a seperate tail whereas the Italeri is part of the fuselage. I am led to believe the Esci kit's cockpit set up with a large clear piece instead of just windows. Italeri's nose shape is also different and better than the Esci one. http://www.aussiemodeller.com/pages/Galler...7-Hercules.html Check out Ray's (Trojan Thunder) and my versions of the same aircraft from different time periods. Mine is the Esci (in this GB) and Ray's is the Italeri. BTW-What's happening with this build Robert? Regards Andrew Edited May 31, 2009 by Andrew Doppel
