Hi Guys,

I noticed that there is a what-if for jet modeling. Is there anything like that for the Rotorheads? Anyway, heres two ideas.

First is the proposed scheme for the AH-2B Rooivalk deal that fell through in 1994,

and my impression of a SAPS (South African Police Service) Rooivalk.

Interesting Wh-iffers, John. An Israeli version would look pretty cool (and I imagine that it would be well suited for the environment given that areas of the Rooivalk's homeland can be harsh to operate in as well).

Cheers,

Alby

I've had some what if ideas based around the US upgrading the UH-34 to turbine power and keeping it in service along side the Huey.

One of these is a budget counter to the Mi-24 Hind as an attack / transport helicopter AH-34, MH-34? :D

I love the K-9 compartment! I thought it said "Beware of Blast" first, but then realized what it was! Very cool!

Hi guys,

I use Corel Draw 11 for the drawings. With what-if's you can relax and do anything you want, and nobody can tell you that you are wrong. :jaw-dropping: .

Alby, an Israeli Rooivalk would be awesome. Your wish is my command.

Oooooh, I like that! Thanks for posting the IDF version. :( Now we to come up with a moniker for it seeing as the IDF/AF likes to assign Hebrew names to their aircraft. What would the Hebrew equivalent to 'red kestrel' be?

Cheers,

Alby

Some great stuff! Particularly like the British and Australian Army ones!

We did have a what-if thread for helicopters. It can be found HERE.

Hi,

Thanks for showing me the link to the what-if's. Some inspiring ideas there, and the quality of the artwork...WOW!. Now that there is two forums..., I'll continue playing around on this one and keep one eye on the other. I'm busy building the UK AH-2B in 1/72, as it almost happened. The drawing was the official proposal from DENEL. The Ausie one is nice and colorful, and they also almost baught them aswell, and the same story with Turkey. South Africa use to have strong ties with Israel before 1994, and it would not have surprised me if the were interested.

Cheers

:D, Hmmm, some Aussie snake names. Eastern Brown; nah, too formal. I know, the Fierce Snake or Inland Taipan. If you get bitten by one of these you want to hope you're within about half an hour of an emergency department with the appropriate anti-venine or you're a goner and although there have been several recorded bites of humans noone is recorded as having died as a result, mainly because taipan anti venom was quickly available. Drop for drop their venom is the most toxic of any land snake in the world so Inland Taipan would be an appropriate name for an Aussie Rooivalk. If you google for Inland Taipan there is a very good piece under wikipedia which I have cross referenced with the Australian Reptile Park's site and the wikipedia entry is for once very good.

:(,

Ross.

Hi Ross,

Excellent idea. The Taipan will be perfect. Damn venomous snake, and will therefore suit the Rooivalk's purpose.

Yes - Australia bought the right Tiger-version. :woot.gif:

Hi Ice225,

That is the prettier version of the Tiger. Interestingly, if you noticed that it uses the same target aquisition pod as the Rooivalk. Only its upside down and on the rear canopy.

Cheers

Kestrell,

A true story-back in the late 60s, early 70's when Australia got its Bell 206B (Kiowa) they were also going to get Huey Cobras as well to use in Vietnam but the labour Government that won the election cancelled the order for the Cobras and went with just the Kiowa. My late father-in-law was at Fort Worth in Texas at Bell overseeing the project at the time on behalf of the RAAF. When he told me about this I went out and bought a 1/48 Cobra (can't recall brand or model) and painted in similar markings to what the Aussie Kiowas are wearing now. He loved it. Unfortunately, I cant post pics of it at present but imagine 'what if?' Australia had of got them and what they would have looked like. if you can Google an Aussie Kiowa you might get an idea of how it might look.

Besides this I also did a 1/72 Apache many years ago in O/D with Aussie markings too, when I happened to see one at our International Airshow competing against the Tiger for our Army Battlefield helo contract.

regards

Andrew

The only down side to the Aussie Tigers is we're having issues getting them to work properly.
